Ok, so wanted to start this up again, as I think it is a good tool for anyone just showing up here.

The idea is simple. Post the things you think are best around boston. Topics can include, but certainly aren't limited to:

    Best place to get coffee
    Best place to get tea
Best bike shop for track/fixed gear
    Best bike shop overall
Best place for a cheap eat
    Best place for music
    best place for a pint
    Best place for vegan food
Best area for a bike photo op
    Best place to get books

and so on. These do not have to be bike related, but as this is a bike forum, they may as well be.

This being said, GO GO GO!clockwork ted: this is my favorite thread. sweet BJ alexi!

Brown Sugar on Commonwealth (I believe they have 2 other locations) has been confirmed by both Zagat's guide and my mouth to be the best Thai food.

The Publick House on Beacon in Brookline is the best place to get a pint.

Soul Fire, I think it's on Comm, not entirely sure, but they have some kick ass chili, and some ridiculous tasty fried mac and cheese.

For books, Brattle, Commonwealth (any of their locations, I think they have three), Lorem Ipsum is good for a look around, and the Avenue Victor Hugo website (just because their Newbury st location no longer exists, but when it did they were my favorite bookstore ever).

Revolution is definitely still open, I was in there earlier today. He seemed sort of down/distracted. Word on the street is that most of Melcher St. is becoming fancy condos, and he's being/been kicked out. I'd be pissed and/or disappointed to.The kid's gotta learn that the game never lets up.

I'd hate to get kicked out of that place. His place is big, spacious, high up with some nice views and I don't think he has any actual neighbors that aren't there between 9-5.

i disagree with the publick house as being the best place for a pint, unless you want to spend $7 on that pint... don't get me wrong i am a beer snob, probably more then almost anyone i have met (i am almost more then serious), but if i just want a pint, i am going for affordable. shit, sunset has 40's of schlitz for $6, id def. take that over an over priced over hopped ipa.

further afield, but it's my almost weekendly stompin' grounds--in north conway, nh--4.50 for 20 oz "pints" at moat mountain brewpub. that place is my second home. i go there so much sometimes they give me free beers. i love this place heart and soul. ya can see mount washington out the window from the bar kinda.
  7.
^No you can't. I was at the place when the power for the whole town went out. I went and got two headlamps and helped the cooks for an hour. Then they tried charging me, but I gave them a Qdoba coupon and disappeared under the cover of darkness.
  8.
MOAT has the best food too man, and the rooms are only 50$ a night, thats where i stay when i snowshoe!there ain't no magic in the breakdown baby
  9.
^Paying $50 for lodging is like paying $7 for a Qdoba for the next three days. You need to get a tent or start using the one you've got.
  10.
well i only have a three season tent and my gf is not too pumped about sleeping in the snow, i have a few times but the lady wins.

i love the comparisonthere ain't no magic in the breakdown baby

Vegan brunch is almost nonexistent in Boston. Bagel Rising (and all the Espresso Royale cafes that serve their bagels) has a really great tofu cream cheese. You can go to Centre Street Cafe in JP for some good vegan options (tofu scramble and stuff), or there's another place in Hyde Square whose name escapes me. Finally, our own The Other Side serves a few vegan brunch options.

EDIT: Ah, that other place in JP is Sorella's.MC Chunky Ice in da howse

I lived in JP for 3 years and never went to sorella's. I was recently informed that they don't actually have any vegan options. They use egg-beaters and somehow people got the idea that that didn't count as eggs.

There's a place in concord NH that has a vegan brunch.

The best vegan breakfast I've ever had was at the sweet onion in in Hanover, VT.
After the breakfast you can go ride middlebury gap and throw it up at the summit.

Town Deluxe is really your only breakfast option.

Centre Street Cafe is never worth the obscene wait.
