^^put some on a model train and send 'er over the border.

I haven't found a super selection of sours anywhere, but I've seen a few at Downtown in Davis, and a couple (including Monk's Cafe) at the Wine and Cheese Cask at Beacon and Washington.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

    IPA 4 eva.

i don't fancy belgians at all. i appreciate the style and belgian brewing tradition, but i like bigass bold west coast style the bitterer the better IPA.

    but i like stout too.
  2.
Guinness was the first beer that I actually liked, and stouts will always have a fond place in my heart. Everything else I'm open too (though, I'm a little bored by Hops In All The Things trendiness), but when I've had a shitty day or a tired day, then Guinness is my chicken soup.

It's summertime. You beer nerds should suggest some good kölsches or kölsch-inspired beers.

Harpoon summer beer is my perennial favorite, but I'm looking to branch out since I think this might be my favorite style of beer. You said time was infinite, so why the watch wrapped around your wrist?

I feel like I finally found a good kolsch and now I can't remember which one...might have actually been Sam Adams?

My fave summer beer last year was North Coast Scrimshaw pilsner. I've always hated German/czech pilsners, but I'm into American ones. Brooklyn also has a winner. Not into Notch, though.i mean that looks like a 10 cat bag, easy

If you like Guiness try Murphy's. F'n awesome.

Just found an ale that made me cream myself, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale... It has a very sweet bourbon after taste.Hi, my name is Jimi and I'm a bike addict

Where do they have it down in Boston? I only know one place on the North Shore.Hi, my name is Jimi and I'm a bike addict
  7.
Not in Boston proper, but IIRC they have it at The Field in Central Sq.

I feel like any proper Irish bar should have it though.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D
  8.
yeah, I used to get judgey about Irish pubs that don't have Murphy's, but it is legit getting harder to find. I'm pretty sure that the Druid doesn't have Murphy's, and it makes me a little sad but I don't feel like that alone violates 'proper Irish bar' credentials.

or it's like, you must have 3 of the 4 going on: seissuns, non-zero chance of seeing rugby on the telly, murphy's, a bartending staff with 100% fresh-off-the-boat accents
and you get an automatic -1 if you have one of those 'xx number of days until St. Patrick's signs anywhere in your establishment.

^Second that. Good to know, I'll just have to get my fix in Gloucester. Allthough from what I've heard, a lot of those stouts are regional in Ireland. For instance, you WILL NOT find guiness in Kerry, nor Murphy's in Dublin.Hi, my name is Jimi and I'm a bike addict

True fact: I hooked up with a bartender from The Field who had a 100% fresh-off-the-boat accent. It was one of the coolest nights of my life. We'll get you a cat, don't worry -t-honks

I used to hang at the Field a bunch when I got out more, non-zero chance of seeing MIT ruggers getting hammered there. We went on tour to Ireland in 2007, in Cork I asked what the cheap beer was there, was told it's Beamish, didn't want to leave.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

^it's down by brooklyn boulders on tyler street. always looks like a party. i fear it may be one of them new-fangled throw anything in the boil breweries. i hope not. whatever happened to hops, barleymalt, yeast, and water? straightup.

i respect different styles but some brewers put a lot of stuff in that jus' don't seem right. like fruit fer godssake! one thing i hate is fruit anywhere near my dang beer! and a piece o' citrus hangin' off the glasswear? jesus wept.

    ol' 'nop's a simple man.

I had the Aeronaut stout at the May Bike Party and thought it was non-offensive, but it didn't blow my mind. I've been meaning to swing by there the next time I'm at BKBS, but most of my climbing lately has been at Metro, so I've been hanging at Night Shift instead. Night Shift tends to have more fruit than usual in their beers, 'nop, so you'll want to avoid them if that isn't your thing. Leaves more for me then.

i don't understand the buzz/ludicrous black market that surrounds heady topper...but then again, i've also never had it1) Stop watching the donkey porn.

PA liquor laws are hilarious. Liquor and wine are sold at state-run stores only. There are beer distributors but you can only buy cases and kegs there. You can buy six/twelve packs, bombers, and 40s at bars and restaurants, but they can't sell you more than 192oz total at once.

But you can buy two six-packs, go put them in your car, and walk right back in and buy more.

eta: that was a total non-sequitur. But I was in PA this past weekend and every time I have to think about how to get the beers that I need in the right quantities and where to go, and it's another stop for wine/booze. So it is hilarious but also really annoying.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

My feeling about hoppy beers generally ranges from mild dislike to outright revulsion, but I really enjoyed Heady Topper. That enjoyment might have been influenced by the hype and rarity, but it is objectively a damn good beer. We'll get you a cat, don't worry -t-honks

It's also fed by the scarce availability down this way.

i take the brewer at his word on heady and drink from the can. the hop hops stays concentrated that way. i think he's right about that. i did an experiment. it's not like i don't have enough as i managed (with the help of my fine fine wife) to score 2 cases and 2 more 4 packs whilst in vermont over the weekend. it took some doin' as they ration that stuff.

also got 4 bombers of lawson's liquid sunshine which i like just as well.

    good trip.

Last week my coworker and I celebrated our birthdays (really late) at work, and in lieu of the usual cake we did a beer tasting, focusing on dark beers. We didn't put a whole lot of effort into it, but after we got the beers I checked and nothing was under an 85 on beer advocate. So I guess we did okay.

Yeah, me too. I kept the rest of the 6 pack for myself!

I also wanted to have the Smuttynose Robust Porter, but I couldn't find it for some reason.

Nice! I traditionally do a family beer tasting on Thanksgiving, and I never have enough dark beers for my mom - I will probs be copying. I think the theme this year might be "Maine" so I'll look for the King Titus.i mean that looks like a 10 cat bag, easy

Oh cool looks like it was invented at VT Pub and Brewery.

Is the Otter Creek super bitter tasting? So many IPAs just taste like metal to me, and I end up wasting money on expensive microbrews that I don't like after taking one sip. I did have success with Heady Topper, though.

Black IPA is an oxymoron, by the way.
  21.
OC isn't that expensive so probably worth a try. I find it less bitter than other Black IPAs. And I never really thought about the contradiction, hah!

The King Titus is super good, it was most people's favorite. They have it at the place in Davis, which doesn't help you but I could pick one up if you can't find it near ya.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

I am not disagreeing, I am quoting you cuz you reminded me:

I was at a [bfixed] wedding this weekend and when I asked the bartender what beers they had, she was like "what do you usually like?" (which I hate, because it doesn't answer my question) and I say "anything but dark beers, basically" and she shows me all the wheat beers and then goes "but all these other ones are IPAs so not really what you're looking for"

I HATE (HATE!) beer wank, but it's getting a little old that whenever I have this conversation with a bartender (also at Miller's Ale House in Watertown), they just say these things that are so fundamentally wrong and with such confidence. Like, I don't WANT you to know which hop variety is involved, but I don't want you telling people that Hoponius Union (made by an all-lager brewery) is an ale, and that ale means "hoppier".

Sorry, that one had been building.i mean that looks like a 10 cat bag, easy
