^^ did u try the Harpoon seasonal ginger ale? I must say I liked it, but I also am obsessed with Ginger. I always want to love the Greenflash Imperial IPA, but just too much for me, think i need to try the Westcoast IPA from them instead...

So...anyone brew their own? Been thinking about it...I have a two part question: 1. Why is he doing that? And 2. Should we light him on fire.
  7.
^yeah. my roomate and i have made about 8 5-gallon batches. its simple and decent quality if you just by the malt/hops kits, more complicated but organic if you want to roast your own barley. to get started cost us ~$500, though each batch starts making back the money. lots of variety available, too. we've been shopping at the brew store on mass ave, cambridge.
other than the initial investment, the only other hassle is the cleaning/sanitizing. sometimes its like a yeasty ship-in-a-bottle.
  8.
WOW, you paid $500 for a starter homebrew kit? I do hope you're doing all grain, as I paid $80 for my partial mash kit. I was thinking of brewing this weekend, actually, I keep putting it off because it takes a big chunk of time, and bottling alone suxx.

  9.
^^maybe $500 was too high? eye dee kay, my roomate paid for most of it because he has a large passion for beer. $80 does sound pretty good, so i'm not sure where that price discrepancy comes from...

    tinyhonkshus: ...and bottling alone suxx.

this is definitely the truth, i would recommend some quality company when brewing. we've had an ipa sitting in the carboy for about a month...finished product is usually worth it, though.

I'll help you bottle/Sanitize! Teach me your ways!
  10.
^^use your empty pop-top bottles, brown glass only. soak them and sanitize them, and they can be reused for a long time.
if for whatever reason recycling empties is infeasible, there is a store called modern homebrew emporium on mass ave in cambridge.

do they short pour ya? cuz for what they're chargin', they oughtta give ya yer money's worth. and i hate those dang girly glasses they pour some of the brews in. i want a man's pint. or preferably a 20 oz. glass. and don't pour me any head. i want my beer filled to surface tension level!!!!
  12.
I don't really remember if they short poured, it was just loud and dim, and had redonk expensive food, and the waitress screwed up the bill. I just don't think a great tap list makes a place great - you can only drink one beer at a time, and you have to deal with the atmosphere while you do it.i mean that looks like a 10 cat bag, easy

Anyone tried a heather ale? A friend of mine home brewed some last fall. While it didn't have the best taste, that shit messed you up. I guess the heather has some psychedelic properties to it or something. We are the small axe.

It's also owned by a complete asshole, as well as filled with douches, not to mention the name of the place is awful.

The B-Side was a million times better, good service, good beers, great cocktails, and not expensive.

American Craft is good, I got to try some damn fine beers the other night, though when it was the Roadhouse I was not impressed.

haha, rest assured if you truly want some, you will get the chance to try it. 2 cases of beer is always way more than i can consume alone before the next batch is ready and i like to give it away and hear what people think. i'll make a follow up post in 2 weeks or so when the bottles are fully conditioned.

^ Been thinking about starting it up this summer, as I'll be bummin around taking classes.

edit: Do you end up bottling into individual bottles, or do you filter into half-keg or growler sized bottles? I feel like Growlers would be easier to accumulate/store/fill/seal than bottles...I have a two part question: 1. Why is he doing that? And 2. Should we light him on fire.
  17.
Generally I bottle using standard 12oz with a couple 22oz bomber size for gifts and stowing away for 6-12 months. Some of the bigger beers can mature for years. Never tried growlers but my intuition says the cap will not form a tight enough seal and your beer will end up flat.

I've been tempted to try kegs/draught systems but have been constrained by space and money. Maybe one day. For now the bottles are a simple, effective solution and I'd rather put my money towards the hardware i need to go all-grain.bowel shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse
