I'd like to get rid of them because:
-they require being untied or tied when you want to put them off or on. It's a stiff fabric that makes them hard to slip on/off.
-they give me a weird feeling on the ball of my feet.

I'm just going to get some van slip ons, I think. I've always been happy with vans soles and all.Pull food on bike carts at Food Not Bombs Boston.

I've got a pair of those chrome shoes.. while they do take awhile to break in and they are ugly they are fucking tough... my previous pair of vans slide ons last me one month before I wore the first hole in them. My chrome shoes look almost new (except for dirt) and have been worn daily since august.if your bike gets locked, you probably deserve it. I've met morgie once or twice, but I don't think of him as a liar. Go guzzle some cum (not to belittle those who choose to swallow) you nut licker.

^ Morgie, how long did they take to "break in" and be comfortable? Did you find the ball of the foot to be uncomfortable from the get go like me? Did this eventually "break in" too? That is the most annoying part to me. I feel like there is lots of pressure right there. I think it might be the "raised circle" part of the sole, but it might just be the design of the inner shoe, no other shoe makes me feel this way, and i'm pretty sure these shoes fit me right.

I really haven't worn them all that much yet (I wear dress shoes at work, but otherwise wear the chromes), if they are going to get more comfortable, I'll bear it out, but right now I don't like 'em.Pull food on bike carts at Food Not Bombs Boston.

I've had a pair since October and I like them. They do break in and go from feeling like you have tennis balls under your feet, to feeling like a pair of brand new vans, before you wear them for 2 weeks and shred a hole in the bottom.

    tinyhonkshus:^I thought Gemathy had some?

perhaps. if you're a women's 9, you're all set. i just confirmed on the website, the smallest size they currently have is a men's 7. i'm somewhere between a women's 7/7.5, though, so it doesn't work for me. i'd be interested in checking out the new ones, particularly if they tone down the red.

what is the benefit of the chrome shoes?
do they have stiffened soles or something?
also they look like payless knockoff chucks to me.

what'd be nice if some manufacturer would re-issue old touring shoes with a grooved sole for clip 'n strap use.
every manufacturer made these in the 70's and 80's- even non cycling companies such as new balance, and they have all but disappeared since then.

    ^grooved sole= no float = knee issues.
if the straps are tight enough to make it work, then it's real difficult to get in and out.
The pedals with a metal flange for the groove are really uncomfortable with regular shoes.
In summary: no advantages over clipless + additional problems. How here comes poppa, he’s the one-eyed jack. (Brünnhilde is the daughter with the armor on her rack.)

the chrome shoes are stiffer, hence the long break in period (two-three weeks).. they are also made of cordura just like chrome bags, therefore they are tougher and water resistant than traditional fabrics/canvas. the rubber is also reinforced around the toe where clip wear occurs... they are also slip resistant which is cool for riding and important for me since i work evenings in a kitchen and it's a must.if your bike gets locked, you probably deserve it. Wait, not to sound like asshole but aren't grooved soles found on almost every single sneaker on the market? From your logic, I don't grasp why you say touring shoes would garner "additional problems." This comes mostly from dreaming about old touring shoes.

I've got a pair of size 43 Shimano RT-80 (walkable soles, SPD) shoes that I wore for about 6 miles before my toes complained. $60 plus shipping new, but If you want them for $50 it will save me the trouble of returning them. I'd love to trade for a pair of 44-45s with soles if there's someone with a similar but opposite sizing dilemma. Hazy cell phone picture:
