The start time on this race was changed to allow people to see as many of the programs at the Bicycle Film Festival as possible. To do this race you can catch the first three shorts in Program 4, but you have to leave the theatre before or during Pedal. Pedal is an older film and I think a lot of people have already seen it, while Program 5 and 6 are chock full of newer and very relevant films. The race finishes at the ICA in time to catch both of those programs.

Fast riders will finish in just about 1 hour. There are a couple of hills. One of the proposed courses for the Boston 2009 NACCC bid will be featured in this race.

Race is free to anyone holding a Festival Pass (which gets you in to all the movies in the whole festival for $27, buy online: http://bicyclefilmfestival.com/2008_site/boston/), or $5 for anyone else.

Prizes/Awards at the Bikes Rock! Afterparty at Great Scott in Allston.

anyone who wants to volunteer to work a checkpoint, contact croth...

Of course this has to be tax holiday weekend, meaning working. DANG IT!brian QG: 4) Columbus tubing is Italian, rather than from Ohio like I originally thought. This sounds nice.

I worked the last checkpoint, 25 folks at the start, 18 or so finished. Met a bunch of folks, but didn't really get names down; also got some fans of the pink bike afterwards.

Thanks to everyone who came out to race. I think we had around 25 starters, and I got 16 manifests turned in before I went in to watch the films. I'm not sure what happened to the rest of the starters, but I know there were a couple of people who flatted out early in the race. As far as I know, nobody got hurt and everyone had fun. That's what I call a successful race. Hills dudes had to climb: G Street Southie, Summit Ave Brookline, Walnut St Somerville. Thanks again, yo! What's next?

    Results:
    1. Peter Bradshaw (in exactly 1 hour)
    2. Gary B (less than one minute back)
    3. Eric Pederson (with Lucas in tow filming)
    4. Jacques/Matt P.
    5. Jacobs
    6. Brandon, riding strong!
    7. Harrison
    8. Wenzday (Top Female, Only Female: what's up with that, Ladies!?)
    9. (manifest missing? anyone remember)
    10. (manifest missing? anyone remember)
    11. K.Laba
    12. Chris Butters
    13. Benjamin J.
    14. Phil
    15. William G.
    16. Tom Fuckface

and this is the course as i would have run it (17.6mi):

Great race. Thanks for putting it together. I had a great time and was totally spent the whole race. The hills made for some funny/awkward walk-passes. Ha. Checkpoints were smooth and the checkpoint workers did a superb job.
  7.
    awesome race craig!
    this was my route: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=2183930

i was on and off again with lucas, jacob, peter, and erik through out the race.
looking at my entire route, there are definitely some places i could have shorted, though the corners cut through the park in the opening, marine st, through LMA, and over the cambridge/franklin st pedestrian overpass helped. a road bike would have helped too.

big congrats to peter for winning the race and the folding bike (now that i just won one as well we'll need to have folding bike sprints... maybe i'll start messengering on it)
  8.
honestly now, how many of you ran your shit up summit ave?
  9.
    kilgore_trout: folding bike sprints...

    foldsprints?

I took a different route out to summit than the winners but we all ended up in coolage at exactly the same time. I kept apologizing to Lucas for what was probably some of the most boring footage ever. and then I fucked it up for both of us at the end.

deleteradio:honestly now, how many of you ran your shit up summit ave?

i most definitely did. i was 2/3 the way up in the lead when all of a sudden jacob, lucas, erik, and david (at least) came swarming up and passed me to the top.
it seems like from sothie to summit was really the only major possible difference in people routes.
  11.
Thanks a lot to Craig, that was so fun!
never been up Summit Ave before. I mean, I could imagine from the name that it was going to be a climb but when I turned the corner, I was like oh fuck.
    wonderful!

looking forward to the next one.
