Still hunting down the perfect frame for my road/racing build. Giving some serious thought to steel. Came across this... price seems a bit high-ish, but looks like a good frame. Whatchall think?

well played sir; but as a 2008 model (which apparently is the only year that had that particular paint scheme) I wonder how comparable it is...particularly since the guy on CL wants $1000 which is a tad high between the age and the components

A Taiwanese ebay seller has been listing alfine hubs for $130. They're listed as new, and the dude has a shit ton of feedback. They're the SG-S500, not the newer SG-S501, but apparently the "underlined" S500 models have the same internals as the S501. QBP price for an S501 is over $200, so this has my "too good to be true" alarms going off. But its china, so it could be a manufacturer getting rid of old model stock, could be defective models, could be "fell off the truck", could be after hour production. The sensible part of me says pay the extra $100 to just a non-sketchy hub. The cheap bastard in me is calculating the risk in buying one.A few spokes shy of a wheel.

usa q cost sometimes isn't the best comparison on things like internal hubs, which are many many times more popular elsewhere. here they're mostly viewed as an interesting curiosity and coupled with limited sales pricing isn't very good.
there are some bike items that RETAIL abroad for about qbp cost/less than qbp cost.
at my old work we could buy internal & dyno hubs built into wheels shipped to the us from canada for cheaper than q had for the hub alone. (oem use only, no retail)
the canadian bike distribution channels were a mystery to me, i'm pretty sure they are run as an arm of euro distributors as we were getting euro-spec hubs. (functionally identical but with a different model number & minor cosmetic differences)

anyways, what is more likely is that those ebay taiwanese hubs are leftovers originally intended for oem use on new bikes. or shimano was dumping stock when a new model came out.gone
