    i crossed the 2010 Boston Marathon FINISH line today, it was really neat.
    i do ride Boylston every morning anyway but today felt different- there's crap all over the place being built down there.
    don't forget to check out your commute route before leaving for work on Monday!! it might be closed off.

    I decided to start a new Thread that doesn't use a slang word for a ladys women parts to talk about getting places in the crapy weather.
    Riding to work today was a little sketchy with the freezing rain and what not most people here that come to work via car have either called in or have gotten here wicked late. Anybody fall down today?-LD

    I hate salt it sucks, Luckly I spent two hours Saturday night custom fitting my SKS full fenders to my bike so I got far less crappy on the ride in.-LD

    it wasnt too bad on the main roads.. the best thing that can be said for the longfellow bridge is that it beats riding through the charles.. when its wet/icy though its a total giggle-coaster with candy gumdrops for eyes.

    +1, my sidewalk was all deceptively icy today, while the road for the most part was miserable but workable.To punish the oppressors of humanity is clemency; to forgive them is cruelty.

    I talked to a few people at work everyone agrees that the sidewalk/front walks where bad roads ok. Few people fell down, that really sucks. I may have to see about the Nokian Hakapilitta Bike tires if the ice keeps up. Ohh the joys of winter.-LD

    i saw a girl in cleveland circle coming down chestnut hill ave going towards comm ave get stuck in the tracks on the main road and almost die but she somehow manage to sketch her way out of it and than i saw some girl at school slip and toss all her projects and books into the air and slam on her faceride bikes for money not for fun(unless your drunk)

    my car looked like it was inside a glacier. I didnt have an ice scraper and had to use a cd case to clean my windsheild. I must have looked like the biggest ass ever.Duffman Can't Breathe

    eh, i was riding today at 7am, it was just a little cold and rainy, not slippery at all. guy at trader joes asked me if i was riding a bike though when i was checking out, he was glad to hear i wasn't riding on the sidewalk.well one thing is certain, the devil has turned them against santa claus

    I am not saying that the weather is hella bad, i hate the wet cold shit thought. I rode all last winter i have passed the bank in Clevland circle many times and seen numbers like 4 and -2 for the temp I know it gets down right cold. I have been in New England for the last 8 years, before I was here in Boston I lived in VT it gets harsh there to say the least.-LD

    The only issues I had were walking. First thing this morning, as I was carrying my bike down the stairs from my front porch, slipped and fell on the lock sticking out of my back pocket. More wounded pride than anything else though.

    On my way to school today I got forced onto the sidewalk for a short block, and as I was coming back onto the street a van started turning down the street in front of me. I would have been fine if he kept going, but of course my 2-wheeled vehicle freaked him out and he stopped, forcing me to try and turn to avoid him. My bike slid out from under me and I fell on my side. Nothing too painful, but my gloves and pants got a little soaked and dirty. The best part is the guy in the van just sat there looking at me, and after I picked myself up and looked at him he drove off. Awesome.mess with the best, die like the rest

    the only time i fell today was walking down the steps out my door. i was surprised at how ice-free the streets were today..i expected to bite it a bunch today on the bike

    I did basically the same thing Erissa did, and fell down the front steps while carrying my bike out the door. It was pretty sweet. I caught myself, but managed to drop the bike - chain first - onto my leg. It was pretty awkward/awesome... or would that be awk-some?The kid's gotta learn that the game never lets up.

    I was stuck in a suit all day, worst day ever....but I did manage to fly off my ride Friday, on perfectly dry ground, with no obstacles, and no cars around. Just decided I wanted to fly over the handle bars. Weee! Now I have a wicked huge bruise on my right hip that is slowly turning a rainbow of green's and purples. Fun times, but I am going to ride in tomorrow, just like every other day. I agree with everyone else, the roads were not too bad today, but walking was bad.this wont hurt a bit...

    Since I ride through the Arboretum each way, I had quite a bit of black ice to contend with. Only crashed on the way home when I cut though off road to get to my door. Bumpy ice... not so good. Generally, I take to the roads exclusively during this time of year because the paths don't get cleared as quickly.[all your base are belong to us]

    i keep biting it trying to turn. fucking coefficient of friction. it's not that i don't know i should slow down, i just don't actually do it. i bounced/skidded on my side across two whole lanes of arlington st yesterday when i butched the turn out of beacon.

    also, +1 to staying out of any state the highest geographic point of which is a landfill.Geryon was a monster everything about him was red.

    Surprisingly, de-icing compound is still composed mainly of sodium chloride or calcium chloride. I had thought otherwise. Wikipedia has this to say:

    Wikipedia also says that in MA, the standard is to use 300 lbs of compound per lane per mile!
    Wikipedia also says that in 1988 over ten million tons of salt was used on roads across the US!

    Ride to work this morning was good althought it seems like people get dumber the colder it is out and they suck even more at driving. I think they don't relize that bikes get to take a lane if they need to I am starting to get pissed about being brushed by cars.

    The commute in was nice today, however I had some ass open his door in front of me on Comm. Ave heading in to BU, and had to swerve to miss it, and then some schmuck in a Hyundai (srsly... those aren't even real cars. They say matchbox on the bottom) cut me off to try and parallel park in a spot (which by the way, he fails at).

    The only thing that made me feel a little better is I knocked his mirror back to get his attention. Made sure I did no harm to the car mind you, but still. It's good to get some aggravation out. Wouldn't have done it if he hadn't forced me to cut into the other lane to avoid running into him.     relatively short ride to work tonight to close, left around 715 wasn't too fun, things were just getting ready to freeze, but riding upwind with the sleet was not too cool. managed to soak me and cover my bike in grit. thank goodness for beers with dinnerYou know, if I were to die right now, in some sort of fiery explosion due to the carelessness of a friend...well, that would just be ok.

    i'm thinking about doing the same thing, i rock a 72" gear or so and i have been slacking on riding lately due to school, so i've been wanting to drop to like 49x19 or 20 for an easier gear to spin. the gear on my urban mtb is super tiny though, 28x16! not really a serious commuting bike, though.. i am going to be building a single speed soon though with a fairly easy gear, probably 49x20 if i can find that size freewheel.well one thing is certain, the devil has turned them against santa claus
