I am still riding my SWEET FIXIE even though it's cracked! WOOOO!DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D
i picked the wrong day to commute home through allston and roxbury areas with a frame and wheel on my back. i feel shitty for definately hitting at least 4 mirrors
don'tYou're purposefully attempting to sabotage my degree project. Thanks.
What the shit with this weather, I was just getting used to not needing a full change of clothes for work.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

The weather was surreal last night: it was generally chilly but I kept biking through pockets of heat/humidity that made no sense to the topography. It was like there were columns of tropical air all over, with normal New England fall weather in between. It was very very weird.Worstcase I'll just zip tie on a seat... but i'd rather not. —Zev (who else)
PSA take tree-lined side streets as much as possible, it's lookin' beautiful with the roads lined with leaves.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

Is it just me or are Cambridge and (particularly) Somerville way worse at clearing bike lanes this year?DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

I think they're worse at snow clearance in general.Worstcase I'll just zip tie on a seat... but i'd rather not. —Zev (who else)
Yeah, I thought Somerville did an admirable job two winters ago, and it's like last year just made them soft.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

after two years of literally not plowing in WY, i can not even describe how excited i was the other day when the plows came down my shitty dirt road in nh
Seriously? Just like, everyone plows their own? Or drives a monster truck?DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D
    • CommentTimeMar 16th 2017
mostly either trucks or constant crashing. you see A LOT of "thanks to the random guy who helped push my minivan out of the snow, didn't catch his name" posts all winter, and a bunch shouting at people for not slowing down, and obvs a bunch grumping about the lack of plowing as well
as much as I love grumping, that's pretty crazyDFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

I've been helping out a couple hours at this place on a corner of a main st and residential (with a giant-ass park and ride lot right across the street no one uses) and it's been funny to hear customers whine about the parking on the nearby residential street not getting plowed quick enough. I even heard a "that's illegal [ the city not clearing out street parking on a side street]". At least space savers aren't a thing here?"life is hard, cats are soft." - surprisefries
Riding back from Harvard Square up Kirkland/Washington to McGrath in the drizzle was awful last night. I forgot how fucked up the pavement is on pretty much the entire length of that road.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

Is Beacon still fucked?"life is hard, cats are soft." - surprisefries
Sorta/yes. Cycle track was pretty nice but unfinished, so now they closed the whole cycletrack again "for the season" to finish it, and the curbs and stuff. So you can ride down Beacon with cars (which I haven't, mostly 'cause it's not on my way anywhere anymore), or take whatever weird detour they made up.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D
I 311'd McGrath for having a bunch of debris (including broken glass) on the shoulder between Pearl and Highland- which Somerville had to fwd to the state, but they cleaned it up (mostly) the same day!

Which I'm sure just means they were about to do it anyway.

I am le tired of picking glass out of my tires.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

saturday i was biking on the kankamagus up north and was passed by a group of 31 mini coopers each in a different color combo, and it was magical

today i was biking near home and got a flat, and a deputy pulled over to make sure i was ok/didn't get run over while i changed the flat, but then later i got another flat and was outta tubes and no magic police showed up =/

    I wish!

Not a ride, but today at work I built a lime green SE Lager for a customer who picked out:

    -orange deep v origin8 wheels
    -purple brakes
    -pink cranks
    -blue pedals
    -gold chain
    -white stem
    -tan saddle
    -thickslick tires

It was something. Failed to get a pic or see the sales total because it was busy. Midwest is weird."life is hard, cats are soft." - surprisefries

Ohhhhh! Did you have a bit of tube poking outside the bead, or a hole in the tire? I've only had blowouts when I've done a bad job of seating the tire (usually because of a super tight bead) or when I've been riding an extra-skank tire for way too long and the tube starts poking through.Worstcase I'll just zip tie on a seat... but i'd rather not. —Zev (who else)
honestly I'm not sure. Tire is okay, tube seemed really old and was stuck to the inside of the tire in a couple places. I just got the bike off another forum and it already had the tire/tube on it so I don't really know how old the tube is. The rim tape had shifted to the side at one point but that didn't seem causal. I just slid the rim tape back in place, put a new tube in and it's been fine for 3 days so far.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

Nothing unusual, I did cycle to work today.
I have decided that going through Union Sq (Washington to Prospect), it is easier/better to just go the old way, right on Somerville Ave then left on Webster. It's just not worth saving a little distance to be riding up the hill* with some SUV up your ass because the lane up Prospect is too narrow to pass.

You do have to be careful now turning left onto Webster though, because both directions of traffic have green at the same time now, no protected lefts.

*ETA the newly 2-way'd part of ProspectDFL and DTF :D:D:D:D
put new tires on my san jose (from 40-something cx to 28c slicks), it was kind of hilarious listening to the new rubber squeak on the road imperfectionsDFL and DTF :D:D:D:D
Imagine my pleasant fucking surprise to see that on Prospect coming into Union, they seem to have gave up on parking spaces on the bridge there, and instead made it just a bike/bus only lane against the curb, PLUS a dedicated bike lane outside that, separated from the "car" lane with flexible bollards.

    A real nice surprise.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D
