Cool! I think SRAM wireless would be the way to go... But yeah, I got the book Vintage Cycles: How to Find and Restore Old Cycles by Gianluca Zaghi , and it sounds like something that would be a fun project, (and time consuming!)

i... don't really know that marty has much experience building bikes, but he is very much the type to do A LOT of research, and he's gonna work with a guy who was alive for at least part of the 30s and i think probably does have bike building experience, so hopefully together...That may be my favorite DQ of all time - nerdo

I went to the Bikes Not Bombs warehouse sale in Dorchester yesterday, which I recommend going to if you like searching for stuff, and found a Zipp disc rear wheel. It was just in a random box that everyone else probably thought was recycling, and they took a hundo for it. Now I get to pretend I’m a TT specialist! I just hope it’s round, because it’s really just a piece of foam glued in between 2 carbon discs.

I was actually considering doing this Mallorca bike trip: http://www.destinationcycling.com/index.php/product/cycle-sunny-mallorca/. A guy in my club has done it the past 7 years and loves it. If anyone’s interested HMU.

13-18mph pace is actually a huge wide range. people that can do 13 can't necessarily average 18? (never mind the 18-23 group!)

i think we're more into "yay fun bike ride with some challenges" vs "special training week" level =PThat may be my favorite DQ of all time - nerdo

Yeah, I guess I’m mostly interested in it for fun, but also wouldn’t mind getting the miles in if it will help with sucking less at Killington, and whatnot. That schedule seems like a lot of miles when you add it up, so the goal would be to not get masochistic on myself. I can do that in Boston if I feel like it :)

I sent someone money on Craigslist for a concert ticket knowing that I might not ever get the ticket (which I didn’t) and ended up getting my money back from PayPal. On the down side, I lost a little sleep over the matter, but now it’s good to know that the goods & services option on PayPal is pretty solid.

continuing on the bagel subject (one of my main food groups), I just fuckin love a nice multigrain everything bagel with veggie spread. Buffalo didn't have that and a lot of cafes used that whipped cream cheese shit which is gross. The coffee and tea is so much better here too."life is hard, cats are soft." - surprisefries

maybe I'll try a trashy donut then. Too bad their coffee is so gross too. Whenever I think about going I'm like "eehhh but I could just go to a good cafe over there and pay about the same for something 10x better", but sometimes I like a good cringe listen to their in-house "radio station" advertisement loop. TIL
    1) I have a new work space near Porter
    2) I can take the 86 bus from the Wine and Cheese Cask to like a block from my house in Brighton
    3) the Wine and Cheese Cask is open late! Varies by day but usually around 10
    4) the bus frequency is still like 25 minutes this late at night
    5) the bus frequency is like 12 minutes at peak
    6) I fuckin love transit"life is hard, cats are soft." - surprisefries
  10.
that's awesome. I like the 86. And one of my coworkers lives v close to the Cask, I am jealous of that.

True story I lived near Harvard Sq when I first moved here in '04 and I didn't know anything about the buses. So to visit my friends who lived on Tufts St. Somerville near the Washington St. underpass, I would take the red line to DTX, O-line to Sullivan, and walk like 15min. It took about an hour total.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

WHAAAAAT wow but you could have walked that entirely in like 30 minutes? That must have taken like an hour

also I love how easy google maps makes taking the bus, with precise stop times and delays from all the fucking ubers in the way, but I hate how it shows uber advertisements on every route suggestion with laughably generous time estimates since they're all getting in each other's way as much as they're in the buses way. Fucking ubers and rich people driving around by themselves #bancars #bus4life"life is hard, cats are soft." - surprisefries

I wish google map bike routes are as intelligent as their public transit routes. It just assumes you are equipped to go on a dirt or gravel path.

i've had google's transit directions tell me to get off one line to transfer to another and, oh, that second line has never come to this stop, sucks for you you had to go outside the barriers to talk to an employee so now gotta pay to get back in as you figure out your new directions (in ny, i can handle reading the T map in boston =P)

Google's bike and transit routing have improved though. AFAIK Bing maps doesn't even have a bike option.

Nandy:WHAAAAAT wow but you could have walked that entirely in like 30 minutes?

Oh I 100% could have walked that in about half the time, but I'd just moved from central PA where you can't walk anywhere so I wasn't yet thinking of that as a possibility. Apparently I didn't look at a map very closely (which is unusual for me).

I was also one of those people who only knew where things were by the T or bus route/stop- It was an embarrassingly long time before I realized how close O'Brien's is to Harvard/Brighton and then to Comm. Ave.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D
