Best Lunch date place to go Friday? Somewhere relaxed and not tooo fancy, comfortable seats, privacy, but no shady sub shops! Spice and Rice? Somewhere between Newbury and Cambridge...

Best dinner date place to go Sunnaday? Something nice, meal for two under $45? Fancy enough to say, "You gonna wannna come back for more, baby! Call me me when you realize you can't live without me. baby." baby.no one gets a shovel at this shit party!

but if I had to take some guesses here they would be.

Veggy planet, charlies kitchen (not fancy, or going to get you laid but I like the black bean burger), or umm...thats it it's late and I am tapped out of ideas.this wont hurt a bit...

i'd say bhindi bazaar at mass ave right by newbury would be good for either. really tasty, if you go for lunch during the week they have an awesome buffet, really cute little place and tasty food. if you go when there isn't the buffet, the portions are definitely large enough to split and the pakora, naan, etc are really good and great to get with your meal. and can pull off a little bit of fanciness.

+1 veggie planet, i love that place and the food is amazing. sorta a hippie vibe though.

charlies saloon on newbury, next to ERC, seems relatively affordable and is a good lunch or dinner spot. they're part of the joe's american grill/paparazzi newbury area trifecta. i think they're all nice places, paparazzi might be a little more high-end than the other two. i haven't eaten at joe's or paparazzi, though. just picked up food deliveries from there.

sunset is a great place for a good meal (and beer!), not so much with the fancy, though. and in allston.

north end is always nice for a decent dinner (although not in your specified range), and you can walk around and get dessert afterwards. i've never eaten at fajitas and ritas in downtown, but i pick up from there a lot when doing delivery and it looks like a pretty nice mexican place. there are a couple of places around park plaza, maggiano's and i think a seafood place, that are probably a little more on the fancy side. i hear finale (i think?) is an excellent dessert place around there. pretty sure i'm all out of suggestions...i don't eat out very much and most of my friends and i are herbivores, so i can't really think of any other places. half of this is based off of places i've been to for delivery.

    good luck, ladykiller.

Elephant Walk in Brookline is a great/romantic kinda fancy restaurant. Entrees run about 15 a piece, and they have a short but sweet vegan menu in addition to their regular one. If French/Cambodian cuisine doesn't get you the girl, I don't know what will.

Elephant Walk! There's one in Somerville I always go by! Sounds like a good plan for dinner. And a vegan menu would get me extra points as well!

edit: And the lady is a herbivore so veggie selections would be best! Sry i forgot to mention that.no one gets a shovel at this shit party!

Trust me on this one Elephant Walk is the way to go. I know from personal experience (my girlfriend) that herbivore girlfriends really dig that place.

my favorite sandwichs in cambridge are at the Oxford Spa... hidden jem IMO

I have never been one to go for the comfortable seats and privacy at a resturant while on a dated, comfy seats and privacy exist at my place. Resturants are for enjoying the food and enjoying seeing how while you and your date interact with the world as a pair, just my opinion though.

top date spots in cambridge IMO:

    R.F. O'sullivans
    Oxford Spa
    Tamarind House
    Christopher's

Elephant Walk is one of the few places in town to please all types.
It's the compromise restaurant, but still pretty good.
After eating their food a few times a week for years though I got burnt on it.

They even have a gluten free menue-f-f-e-c-t a smooth operater operating correctly

awrite! Something I'm actually GOOD at.

Dinner: Where are you looking at specifically? You can do Shabu Shabu @ Kaze or Shabu Zen, that's pretty cheap if you don't drink, and good. Gaslight in the south end is good for a date if you like French food, and would fit your budget if you don't drink once again. It's all setup in there like an old Brasserie (french restaurant). If she's a girly girl, and this is your third date/some special occasion and she's never been, just do appetizers and drinks at Upstairs on the Square in Harvard Square. It'll make you feel all self conscious about your feminine side, but she'll feel like an alice in wonderland princess. Toro in the south end is kinda trendy but you can order cheap tapas and 1 dollar pbr tall boys if you can ignore the yuppie crowd. The food is also actually pretty damn good there. If you want authentic chinese that won't kill you, mary chung's in Central is really really good for that, and cheap. It ain't pretty in there, but it's good food.

I wouldn't really consider Grendle's Den, charlie's, or anything with an O'whatever, a date-date spot, and the food is pretty uh... mixed at best.

Another suggestion is going to Les Zygomates in the Leather District, and order a bottle of wine and eat bread while listening to live jazz. I usually do this to end a night out (or get it started if you KNOW WHAT I MEAN WAKKA WAKKA WAKKA). Ideal evening: ICA gallery showing, food in chinatown with a couple of drinks, and then split a bottle at Les Zygomates at the wine bar.But the fact of the matter is: Bones heal. Chicks dig scars. And the United States of America has the best doctor-to-daredevil ratio in the world!

I think they misappropriated the space @ banq. It'd be a much better lounge/bar/etc than a piss-poor restaurant. howl:The addis red sea in the south end is pretty good. . .

That place was expensive, and I didn't know that I specifically had to ask for the Injera made with the traditional way with Teff, rather than the bullshit white flower version I was served. It ruined the whole meal for me. Also, as it typical for Boston fair, the Berbere was dumb-ed down for a western pallet. That irritates me.
I miss the Ethiopian food in Portland. Inexpensive, spicy, and delicious. (Though I'm sure those restaurants have been supplanted by some sort of yuppie-hipster bullshit by now. Fuck, I hate Portland.)

no, we were only there a few days (one of which was spent hiking and going to those CRAZY sand dunes on the coast) so we didn't get a lot of restaurant eating in. the only other places i really remember going were an awesome bar where there were books all over the walls and another pretty great bar that had like every arcade game ever. they were also playing entire stereolab albums in the arcade bar, which only helps. i wanna say that they were near chinatown but i'm not sure.
  22.
    Your talking about Ground Kontrol.

A brilliant business plan, I've always loved arcades and Portland has had some great ones.
There is a funny aside about the guy who started the place, Niel I think, anyway I used to be in photo classes with and pined for a woman that was his girlfriend for a short time. So, consequently, I never liked the guy, but I was young and didn't know shit.
    The end.
