I helped setup a show tonight at Bartos Theater (MIT) that features a video of guy's bike commute in NYC. The guy then took his heart rate, etc, from the bike ride and translated it into music. A trio of musicians is performing that music live tonight, starting at 8PM :) Another band from NYC called No Lands will also play and it will be great!

There's also a free art tour starting at 7:15pm.

It's super cheap! $5 cash at the door.

a bit after-the-fact on this one, but did anyone go to the ManRay 10year reunion tonight at paradise?
i went, even though i knew no one, since i moved to boston just under 10years ago after it had already closed down, but heard tons of stories from slightly older people about how rad it was.
it was great time tonight though!

    Did Tweedledum go?

I used to go to Goth Night and sometimes to Gay Night (the latter, on dates with women -- it was a very mixed crowd). Tweedledum told me about the existence of Alternative Night, which was before my time, but sounds like it must have been really awesome.

Sometimes on Goth Nights, you could get in for free if you were wearing "fetish or Cyberware."::lols at Dan's great photoshopping job:: ::slowly stops laughing:: ::googles:: ::kills self:: -tinyhonkshus

I wonder what I was talking about...
(Though I did go quite a few times erm, shortly after it opened...)

    Did I?

    How the memory fails us...

What I remember now is the when it first opened it was different - like, that would be 84? 85? 86, maybe? & a really different vibe from what it would become later. I'm having a hard time remembering just when that shift from the sort of un-nameable* kind of alterna to the goth/bondage/electronica thing it became happened... But it happened pretty early on, I think. Why, I dunno.

(*maybe somewhere between early-mid 80s pub-rock + some hippie proto gothy vibe + maybe ... Berlin? I dunno. Good vibe)

'didn't know, wouldn't go' <-- that sounds kind of mean, dunnit?

yeah, like i said, wish i was around for when manray was open, but the reunion was rad. saw a lot of people i recognize from other goth/fetish/gay nights as well as a few friends.

Some of you may have an interest in this show at the Middle East Downstairs, one of my favorite bands from the past decade. The lead singer/keyboardist is the keyboardist from The Get Up Kids.

I saw Reggie in Duluth, GA opening for Alkaline Trio and My Chemical Romance back in 2005. The dude from Slipknot that eventually died from heroin filled on bass for Reggie and the Full Effect. It was a pretty weird and awesome show. Besides parents, I felt like the oldest person at 22.
Also, FAILURE AND HUM are touring together in August!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was the first tour that I saw him at while they were at the Palladium. I was 15! I've only missed one of his local shows in the past ten years, and they never disappoint.

Someone at a different forum helpfully pointed out to me that be excited about having a radioshow is very 1987, but fuck it, who said I'm excited?

Hopefully it will be ok in the beginning? I expect it'll take me a few weeks to get my DJ-legs back under me after a decade off the air (full disclosure: when I still had a show I was so involved in gathering music that I got super burnt out and stopped collecting new music for awhile, so the comment about 1987 may be more apt than a person might have thought).

I saw Pixies at Agganis in like, 2006? it wasn't great. Are DEP still good? I kinda fell off with them, but seeing them at the MidEast several years ago ranks among the most fun shows I've been to. Also my first and last time stage diving.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

If anyone wants to give me a ride down to Newport folk festival I have an extra free ticket/parking pass. Roger Waters is the only act I really care about, and it's an early show ending at 7:30. We would have to leave Boston at around 3, or earlier if you are interested in one of the other acts. My Morning Jacket is rumored to be Waters' backing band.
