nerdo:What's the pay? Wyoming is kind of amazing.

i would guess around $15/hour. by the time we get to our new building everyone should be making minimum $20/hour, but that is somewhere 3-5 years from now...
there's insurance (after 60 days), that's i think $115/month for medical/dental/vision (very soon my friend in DC can stop mailing me pills!)
so, it's not really amazing financially, but if you're into Wyoming or the idea that working somewhere tiny means you're not 1 of 15 people doing the same thing in the same place, it's good? plus the people are great, and when you do a decent job they do make sure you know that they're happy/appreciative.

oh man did i talk about when he said his father would "be done soon" so he and his mom could move to wyoming? that dude got increasingly creepy, was firmly uninvited, then called back trying to give himself a different position. we're all sort of expecting him to show up at any time, with a weapon.

but no, this is a different position. we had someone lined up for it, but first the house she was going to buy here didn't pass inspection, and then she was apparently so incredibly allergic to stuff in this town that she went back to colorado, because if they came here her husband would have to quit his job and she'd be without insurance, and dealing with crazy allergies, for 2 months until insurance through the museum kicked in. (there has to be more to it than that, i don't really know. it all felt incredibly unprofessional, though - like, i am this position's boss and i didn't even know where she was/why she wasn't here for the first day and a half after the first time she used allergies as an excuse.)

oh, and some lady quit being assistant manager at a museum an hour away to fill the admin position that the creepy guy was supposed to be in, and so far she's fine, even if i question her career trajectory.

    ThreePete:Any weekday evenings/weekend part-time gigs?

cue the hate parade but you could always try Favor. say whatever you want about them, but its pretty nice to decide to work and take a shift pretty much on the spot, and choose your shift length. ive been approached by other "legitimate" companies to work for them, but everyone wants a pretty solid commitment. it's nice to be able to work a ton one week and sit out for two and not worry about having work when you want it. in terms of casual and flexible, ive yet to find a better situation.

that being said, if anybody wants to take me on for weekday nights/weekends, im all ears. right coast approached me on the street, i filled out their online form, and nothing. so I'm all ears.

I'd go to the square and talk to right coast people again. You'd need a somewhat predictable schedule because it's a small group and you'd screw them over by not showing up, but it'd pay way better than Favor and you could sleep easier not enriching some tech bro. Otherwise go to Breakaway- they'll hire anyone these days and it is literally impossible to get fired. Hit pregnant people on the sidewalk, eat cookies you're supposed to be delivering in front of the clients you picked them up from, fight building security people and get every courier in the city banned indefinitely, rarely show up and refuse jobs, they don't give a shit. They really, frustratingly suck, but it is 1040 and fairly stable. Office hours, though."life is hard, cats are soft." - surprisefries

The only thing I have to say about Favor is that their management came into my shop about a month ago and tried to headhunt me and my coworkers, offering them at least double what they were making here. Now I ain't getting rich fast here but I highly doubt they could pay out double what anyone here makes.

Bunch of dickheads.Naaaah, too uncool for the #messlyfe. I just like to hang out in loading docks and pretend to talk on my radio so that people will like me. - Mfratt

Yeah, when im out doing runs I never wear that stupid tuxedo t shirt bullshit, its got to be one of the dumbest brandings ive ever seen. like you want that really annoying kid from your freshman year at college who thought tuxedo t shirts were so funny to show up with a soggy burrito? i try to be as discreet as possible that im even working for them. it's really just a way for me to earn gas money and entry fees for races. but yeah a bunch of the favor runners are pretty much danguses. But its the only flexible bike work ive found : /

^^Pete, for real, check out Right Coast if you can commit to a shift or two. Night shifts are usually 5-11 or so, so it can be brutal if you're also working all day but you'll make pretty good cash (there are weekends, too). They are bad at getting back to people by email because it's just a few people running everything, but see if you can track them down. Look for a giant guy/backpack with an awesome mustache. I think they'll help you figure out a front rack situation, too."life is hard, cats are soft." - surprisefries

As long as you know not to hold pizzas sideways, you're already ahead of some of their other craigslist workers. Make sure you can field repair your bike (flats and such, you'd be amazed at the number of people who can't), and carrying food takes practice, so talk to other workers for advice and stick with it. If you happen to get a day off from your real job try a day shift because catering is where the money is for less effort (once you learn how to carry lots of volume). Nights can be good, just hectic and the drivers out then suck hard. Sometimes you can get a zone near your house and be on call at home when it's slow and you still get shift pay."life is hard, cats are soft." - surprisefries

WHO CARRIES PIZZAS SIDEWAYSSSSSS! I know how to change a flat - haven't had to in a while.

I would imagine having a front rack would help tremendously with carrying large volumes of food. Well I hope they get back to me, I feel like I might enjoy doing this on the side...

EDIT: I know some lab rats work in kendall on the weekends, did you ever have to do weekend deliveries of dreadful abcam boxes?

ABCAM is weekday only, I believe, and you only want large volume from them because they pay like $2 each, and the local range is from 840 Mem-Navy Yard-end of Drydock-Longwood, not just Kendall. When I first started at breakaway there were days when I'd do the morning Cambridge ones then sit around 3 hours until the afternoon run and make like $20 total.

When you get good at carrying 30+ you can get around $60-70 for maybe an hour of work, but you have to convince your dispatchers to let you have them (instead of sending like 6 rookies or a car for a large one literally next door), and that many in a run is rare. Sometimes you get forced to take like one to MGH, one to Tufts Med, one to drydock, so it's like $6 for maybe 5 miles and an hour or more of work. That place is really a mixed bag."life is hard, cats are soft." - surprisefries
