Does anyone have large wrench sockets that I could borrow? I just got back my BMX bike from my childhood and I want to take the pegs off. I don't have hex-sockets big enough though for the axle nuts though. I think I need like an 18mm, 19mm, or 20mm hex socket. It might be a large English socket too, not sure. I'd just need to borrow them long enough to get the pegs off.

^I'm sure any shop in Boston would let you use their tools to take them off without charge.

^ Not too sure about that. Was in Arlington last weekend and a lock nut broke on on my front hub. I was right by some bike shop...Quad Cycles I think...and went in to buy one. They wanted to install it for me and I said I could do it if they lent me some cone wrenches. They said they would have to charge me...I just rode home on the broken lock nut.

Granted, it wasn't in Boston proper...so take that as you will. :\unstuck in time

one unnamed local shop use to have a space set-up for loaning out tools and it cost them over 1300 in lost/stolen tools in one year. a 15mm here, pliers there, cone wrench there, and it adds up quickly for a business, if you wanna borrow something always try offering to let them hold your ID or cell phone or something. As far as cone wrenchs go that is the type of tool that a lot of people think they know how to use but don't! so understandably shops shy away for loaning them because joe commuter will spend 45min trying to properly adjust the lock nuts on his hub only to get frustrated and ask for help or damage the wheel even further.

generally speaking I won't expect a shop to loan me any tool not commonly found of on a multi-tool.

^ I can see that. But, it was a lazy Sunday afternoon, there was absolutely no one else in the shop besides me, I already had taken my wheel off using my own tools I had with me, had already bought the locknut and assumed they would just let me borrow a cone wrench for the 2 minutes it would have taken to fix the problem.

Hmm, I guess they didn't have to but it would have been cool of them if they had, especially since I had already bought the locknut.

    Meh.unstuck in time

no doubt it wouldn't have been better karma for them to loan you the tool. And if i owned a shop i'd definitely be kind, but it's not something i'd expect from a shop..

on a related note did you notice they charge $8.50 for tubes!!! talk about BS!

If you volunteer at BNB (the Hub not the store) then you can come to Tool Time (every other Thursday) and use a full bench of tools for free. Also, if you just become a member (without volunteering) you get the same privileges. It's pretty rad...I haven't gotten to that part of the poop yet

has to be red or white? my only white dress is a bit on the summery side of things and therefore, probably not dressy enough. i have some nicer black dresses and a grayish-lavender one (provided i can get the fork fluid off of it).

sometimes i pretend i'm a lady too...and then sometimes when i'm done being a lady i hang my dress on a mountain bike with a leaky inverted double crown fork and learn that's a bad idea.
