This will be an interesting test, since I've never even heard of the place. Follow-up question: do you use Yelp or have you made reservations through OpenTable (not to this restaurant, just anywhere)?Worstcase I'll just zip tie on a seat... but i'd rather not. —Zev (who else)

Crazy. I get that shit from Google Assistant but only when I have my location turned on (which is not often, and I usually have wifi off too unless I'm at home or work).DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

No I haven't written anything on Yelp, or reserved anything online. I'm thinking they got my email from some place that's sharing it, and I always walk around with the wifi on, so maybe that triggered something. It's still weird.
  2.
check your location services allowancesomebody turn the lights off on this place already.

on my sprint phone its an application or something called izat location optimizer that will use cell tower pings to give you a closer reading to your location. it will work with and without gps or wifi. i believe if you have root access you can remove the application

not even a phoneterview first, cuz there's some sorta hands-on part they want. the vague impression i have (which i may have entirely made up) is that they're mostly interviewing locals but also want to talk to one or two, uh, actually qualified people? and i'm that. That may be my favorite DQ of all time - nerdo

turns out the detroit airport is so far out of detroit that it's actually the shortest drive, so that's where i'm flying...
historic farm specialist for wood county, which is a job i'm really into, but the interview sounds like kind of a nightmare - hour of regular "behavioral interview questions", 15 minutes me giving a talk on a historic thing of my choice, and then i'm supposed to give a 45 minute interpretive tour of the farmhouse/grounds but i've been provided with 0 info with which to build a tour and their website has squat
i guess the guy thinks he's helping me save money by getting all the interview parts out of the way at once, but like...idk maybe a phone interview first could have been worthwhile?not that i don't want it, but i want to at least know he really wants me before i do all this money-spending (too late now)That may be my favorite DQ of all time - nerdo

i did just get the guy to give me at least an outline of what's there, if not any of the actual history that would make an interesting talk (he sent me excerpts from the master plan from a decade ago, before it opened), but i don't have the impression anyone else has asked for any information. what the absolute fuck are they planning to do? just show up and go "FARM! finally got out to that ^ farm for that interview yesterday, and for now they have cats, goats, and chickens, and that's it. no god damn idea how the interview went and they've only committed to probably deciding 'some time in april' so... eh. would be another pretty terrible place to live, in terms of biking, but not quiiiite as bad as wyoming (in that there's a bike shop less than 100 miles away, and possibly some other folk who might ride bikes)That may be my favorite DQ of all time - nerdo

So uh, hypothetically, if hubway had put like 95% of the bikes and stations in say, beacon hill, and only 2 stations spread out in Dorchester, and was partnering up with a white guy who doesn't live there to do "outreach and education on how to use bikeshare" for those Dorchester residents, because "people there don't bike", that'd be fucking insulting, right?"life is hard, cats are soft." - surprisefries

When I moved here I was all "hey, Buffalo's just kind of small and slow catching on to things, how bad can it be?". Holy shit y'all, stuff like this keeps happening. I open my big mouth on facebook, they take it to PMs and ask to meet in person (usually because what they're trying to say is they hate poor people but don't want screenshots to get around. I don't know why they don't just ignore me). I've met with the director of a neighborhood association that apparently has enough power to heavily influence road projects (fun note from that - they're trying to get the state to keep the city from reassessing their property that's become super valuable in the past decade, because they don't want to pay local taxes), someone who's helping write the regional transportation plan, and now the bike share company wants to meet with me. It's weird."life is hard, cats are soft." - surprisefries

Also, there's been no bike counts or any data to base "people don't ride bikes there" aside from racism and classism, and the bike share company has met with a cycling advocate and organizer who lives in this part of town, but they're still having this oblivious white guy lead their "education" efforts. I live on this side and work on people's bikes all year. There's significant ridership here, they just get fucking ignored and it sucks."life is hard, cats are soft." - surprisefries

I wish my neighborhood association had that kind of power. Maybe someday. Uh, to be clear though we would do better things with it like make development not shitty for most people.

Is there any way to generate some data, like work with the people who care to do some counts? Would they even pay attention to that?DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

^^^ eh, I don't blame people for not getting into lengthy facebook discussions about bike infrastructure, that sounds healthy (or taking time to fill out surveys or attend meetings that don't matter or any of that shit. The methods can be improved without wasting regular people's time). The people in these positions should be doing the work to find out where people are actually riding, or at least not pulling assumptions out of their ass, not effectively providing a service, and then calling people dumb for not using it. This is what their map looks like, red line roughly indicates "east side":

Also it costs $2 to park outside of their racks on top of the regular fees.

I think the next thing I'll try is maybe getting in touch with college urban planning departments and see if they'll make it a project or something, but really, who the fuck am I? Why is this shit not getting done by people who know what they're doing? At least I have the time and energy to keep on these fuckers cases and might get listened to sometimes because, you know, white people."life is hard, cats are soft." - surprisefries

sooo my new apartment is very very carpety. currently my bike is standing upside-down on a spread out industrial sized trash bag. we got any less trashy but still extremely cheap alternatives? i'm more concerned about keeping mud out of the carpet than, like, having a nice bike rack...That may be my favorite DQ of all time - nerdo

Would suggest a tarp but I'm always surprised at how expensive they are. Do you have an old towel? That instead of or in addition to the bag would at least look nicer?

Alternatively maybe you can scavenge an old plastic tray for shoes/boots, or something like that? Is doing a vertical wall-mount feasible? That would reduce the footprint you need to cover.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D
