Our good friend Chandler Delinks is putting on his second annual fundraising event for the Pan Mass Challenge this Sunday, the 26th of July, at Middlesex Lounge in Central Square. OPEN will be there with roller racing equipment and side betting, AKA "Dirty Betting," is encouraged- proceeds will go to the PMC and cancer research.
Middlesex Lounge is graciously hosting the event and their top-notch bar and kitchen will be open for your pleasure.
A statement from Chandler;
"I hope you are ready to get your dirty biking on. Last year, the event was a major success, and it was only I, the Dirty Biker, who got dirty. This year, however, with the help of Open Bicycle and Middlesex Lounge, we are bringing Biking Dirty to the next level. It's called Roller Racing. Google it. Get ready to do it. Fellow Dirty Bird, Beau Colburn, was kind enough to make this informational page about the event. Check it out: www.bikedirty.com In the spirit that is me, I have given you all as little notice as possible for this event. That's how Dirty does it. Suggested Donation at the door is $20.00. You want to race? $10 suggested entry fee. You will also have the opportunity t0 place bets on racers. Dirty Gambling... I hope you can make it, and remember this: Every single penny that comes out of your pocket at this event goes right to the Jimmy Fund. 100%."
Some serious competition will be present, the drinks will be strong, and the party will be lively. Come out and support the PMC- for, as Chandler says, "Cancer sucks."
Just and FYI, not that it matters, but Chandler is CAT2 and still races with his late-80's steel frame, giving him some street cred - isn't that what its all about these days? I'm sure he's going to provide some competition, as well as some of his teammates for us youngsters.
Being that I am missing out on what would be my 9th year in a row as a finish line volunteer (province town inne crew wut wut) to be around for NACCC weekend, I am super stoked on this event!
A little more background from a PMC volunteer perspective:
The PMC is in it's 30th year, is the largest single event sports related fundraiser in the world, and has an absurd percentage of funds collected->charity ratio (something like 97%). When I used to work for groups like the HS:US, DNC, GLADD, Habitat for Humanity etc working the phones at Share Group a ~70-80% funds collected->cause ratio was considered normal, for the reasons of needing to pay the folks who worked for these campaigns. When it comes to the PMC there is a tiny shortlist of people who are actually "employed" by the event and they manage to get gobs of supplies donated, allowing them to funnel nearly every cent of the >30million they raised last year into the coffers of the Jimmy Fund and their fight.
As someone who's seen the good and the bad of charity events I can tell you the PMC is entirely legit, and due to the economic woes of this year hurting their fundraising efforts deserves any dollars you can show up to donate.cdrebbel: STOP TYPING 'BREAKS' YOU FUCKTARDS. YOU HAVE NO CREDIBILITY.
