Does anyone want to do the Harbor to the Bay AIDS benefit ride on 9/20 of this year? Registration is currently $50; also requires a $1,000 fundraising minimum, which is a pain in the balls1) Stop watching the donkey porn.

^I'd like to come along but I've never ridden on "gravel". I never even heard about gravel rides until this year. Why do we keep making new categories so they can retail more shit to us???!
Do you reckon this seriously requires a cross/"Gravel" set up? Or will my knockabout tourer function just as well?

i have a tourer with 35 tires. i assume the trick is to figure out good psi.
i've not done one before...but people back home used to do "gravel grinder" rides on 29ers, tourers, cross, roadies with 28s, etc.
BUT i have no idea what will work on this route, but I assume a tourer is a-ok.

JimmyJ:So I registered for this ride heading from Ride Studio on Sat April 26

    About 45miles of dirt/gravel/road....sounds fun.
I'm probably in the intermediate pace group....though I have no real idea.
People should come and do it.

    Link HERE!

Only saw this just now. I did the Ride Studio Cafe "Honey 100K" on my birthday last year and it was one of the funnest rides I have ever been on. This looks like it was pretty much the same route -- which makes sense since it's also put on by Honey and RSC. People rode the gamut of all sorts of things from road bikes with slightly tready tires to at least one person on a full-blown mountain bike, but most folks were on cross or rando-ish bikes with CX tires. The folks on too-slick tires had a very hard time in the mud, and I would have personally had a very hard time keeping up on the paved sections if I were on a mountain bike. I was *very* happy on Yee-Ha with moustache bars and 35C CX tires at about 45psi, though the next time I do a ride like this I'll carry a bunch of CO2 cartridges and inflate my tires to 90 on all the on-road sections, then deflate for the off-road sections. I kept shooting to the front of the pack on the off-roads (thanks for all the MTB practice sessions, Sourman!) and then falling to the back of the pack on the on-roads.

We could certainly follow the cue sheet and do this ride unsupported, but the at-RSC waffle breakfast, numerous fantastic on the road snack breaks including homemade iced coffee, on-the-road make-your-own-burritos lunch, and back-at-RSC dinner were ALONE well worth the $40 registration fee.::lols at Dan's great photoshopping job:: ::slowly stops laughing:: ::googles:: ::kills self:: -tinyhonkshus

I dunno if people will generally be interested in this such that it warrants being formatted into the actual calendar, but on June 22nd there's going to be a tour of sites related to the history of Boston's Jewish community in Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan. Apparently it's being put on by a number of local Jewish (labor Zionist) groups and BCU (keeping my thoughts to myself on that one). Led by Dick Bauer, who I've heard via FB puts on good rides (he's also a super-cool local public interest attorney fighting the good fight).

    Crash hats are required.

a few events get posted here, but this is mostly the slow/boring/fun ride crowd. I'd recommend stopping by winthrop square after work, those guys are more into quick races and alley sprints sort of things. From the FB Page

Hello, I'm sorry to say we have some bad news. We planned this swap to be later in the year than we normally do since HQ got so full of awesome tenants that they couldn't fit us anymore and it took some time for us to find a new venue. We are so happy that District Hall was able to take us in but unfortunately, vendor reg has been on the low side and not following the usual registration trend (normally at this point we're sold out or close to it!). We've gotten feedback that people won't be able to make it because they don't have the holiday Monday off or they won't be back from races in time, etc. I think everyone is a little tired after long race seasons, the Holy Week of Cyclocross, or it's fall in New England and you just want to be out enjoying the amazing weather on your bike before we're all buried in snow.

Over the past few years, Back Bay Cycling Club (B2C2) has worked really hard to bring you quality events at our swaps that are full of great vendors and wonderful attendees. We didn't want to let you down with a sub-par event since the timing was a little off and so we have decided to postpone this until the spring. We plan to be back and better than ever in the spring so look out for our Spring Swap and thank you for your loyalty to our event. If you were one of the few who had registered as a vendor, I will be contacting you shortly with a full refund.

Again, my apologies for cancelling and I hope to see you at the Spring Swap!
