H.E.L.L. (Helping Everyone Live Longer) is back, this time being organized by my friend Andrew (update 12/4/10: and now me!)

    ------

H.E.L.L. (Helping Everyone Live Longer) is a non-profit organization that was started in response to the deaths of two bicyclists, Gordon Riker, and Kelly Wallace, and stands in memory of any friend or loved one who has lost their lives in a bicycle accident.

H.E.L.L. works to distribute free bicycle helmets, lights, and safe-cycling information to anyone who needs them. Safety is a right that everyone deserves.

Safety is for jerks. Eat your vegetables.

at least in the past, i believe they prefered it if you make some sort of contribution if you can in exchange for a helmet. the idea is (was, at least) to ensure they have helmets that people want to wear, that people who can't afford safety gear have it available at no cost, and generally a movement to make helmets more socially acceptable.

so if you NEED it free, it's there. but if you're not strapped for ca$h and make whatever payment you can i'm sure it's very much appreciated.

Awesome service. Worthy of a donation even if I go somewhere else for a helmet - been riding Giros for 10 years now, and I'll be damned if I've got it in me to switch (even if they do seem to crack really easily lately...)ascott430 - "Was going to build it up into a fixed gear until I realized I'd rather spend money and time on mountain bikes."

    Update on H.E.L.L.

H.E.L.L., which was restarted by my friend Andrew early this year has spent the last 9 months running relatively quietly. Over the past year, Andrew gave 35+ helmets out to those living in the Boston area. I just recently teamed up with Andrew on this project. We just got in 30 new helmets today and are looking forward to getting them out there and onto people's noggins.

We have a new facebook page. Please "like" us to keep up to date with what we're doing: http://www.facebook.com/HelpingEveryoneLiveLonger

If you need a helmet, please send requests to hellhelmets@gmail.com.

While we offer our helmets completely for free with no strings attached, it is completely from donations that we keep our organization running. If you are interested in purchasing any of our fundraising merch (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=28970&id=165924040112155 ) or want to donate any amount to help cover the cost of your helmet, we encourage you to do so. Your donations help cover the costs of giving helmets to those without any money to spare. Again, no donation is required or expected and we offer our standard helmets with the H.E.L.L. logo 100% for free.
