someone got hit mass ave outbound, just past the newly repaved section as it straightens out north of hvd square.
looked like a fendered black mercier kilo was pulled to the snowbank on the side of the road, looked like the back end got run over. i couldnt see the rider because i was driving, but only two cops, no ambulance, and i didn't notice if there was a suspect car pulled over because i was trying to merge around the scene.somebody turn the lights off on this place already.

Female on a yellow single speed or fixed gear (fuji feather maybe) was hit on Webster St in between Union Sq and Cambridge St this morning.

She seemed mostly physically ok when I passed by. She seemed to be spinning her wheels and checking her bike out, if you know her please advise I'd advise her to get to a bike shop and a doctor sooner rather than later.

Creeper shot from my helmet cam:

Yikes, I came through a little later and was wondering what happened, the cops were still there but fire and EMS were gone.

(Small correction though, that's still Webster Ave there.)DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D
  2.
Glad she seems to be okay. Was there a driver stopped too?

Not hit, but crashed. I know some you know Peter Cheung. I was supposed to go riding with him and Brain S. and a few others today. They were leaving from Copley at Noon, but I had a softball meeting to attend. I stopped by before they left and hung out for awhile. Just saw this on Peter's Facebook page:

"Crashed. Hit Ice. Passed out. At the ER just to check things out. Thankful I was riding with good friends." Send good thoughts his way!All you white kids look alike when you're still covered in baby fat, so I was getting bored with the non-stop WASP parade.

Twitter seems to say it was a hit and run involving a garbage truck, but I couldn't find that confirmed anywhere...

How did they let the truck keep going? Traffic doesn't usually get far there. Getting out of that street is always super shitty.

I hope once they finish the investigation we'll see some vehicular manslaughter charges as well.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

I would think that would go hand-in-hand with said charge but IANAL.Naaaah, too uncool for the #messlyfe. I just like to hang out in loading docks and pretend to talk on my radio so that people will like me. - Mfratt

I think leaving the scene is a pretty obvious/easy charge to bring, but manslaughter takes more evidence/investigation time.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

they were also on a bike so they'll probably get no charges and will be back on the road working for the city in no time.'Cause i always say i love you when i mean turn out the lights.

I seriously would love to see a statistical survey of cyclist deaths in Boston caused by commercial vehicles versus noncommercial. Anecdotally it would seem to be a very high percentage. Even if you don't put the person in jail forever (which is what I'd want) they at least should never be employed again to drive a commercial vehicle. I seriously doubt that even happens.Worstcase I'll just zip tie on a seat... but i'd rather not. —Zev (who else)

    case closed.

Even if they don't get a conviction it would be great to see manslaughter charges. Obviously they won't bring 'em if they don't think there's at least a reasonable chance of getting a conviction though.DFL and DTF :D:D:D:D

    random related question -

if you do you "work" in the public realm (driving, delivering, etc....not just commuting to/from a workplace), does your employer have an obligation to cover insurance for "accidents"?
if someone comes to your workplace (office) and gets hurt you have insurance to cover that.

and a follow on from that are people who work in the public realm held to a higher level of responsibility to ensure a "safe workplace"?

I imagine it depends on whose vehicle you're using. Company vehicle is going to be insured by the company, a personal vehicle isn't but if you're smart and using your personal vehicle for company work then you've come to an agreement with your employer about liability.

I believe, no on the second question unless you're talking about special vehicle licences, CDL, haz-mat, etc.We are the small axe.

^^I assume that's regular insurance stuff yeah?

I think what I'm trying to get at is that I have a responsibility in my workplace to ensure the safety of visitors, at least I/the company has the potential to be found liable for things that we don't outside of our "office". (Someone visiting the office slips/falls etc.).

I wonder how the law deals with the responsibility of those who work in public space, and whether they have an additional burden of responsibility to the general public whose space they use.

"“If he’s dependent upon his position to keep six children fed and clothed, I don’t find it necessary to prevent him from doing that,’’ the judge said from the bench."

What about the cyclist? Was it necessary to prevent the cyclist from being alive? I guess if you drive trucks and have a family, you can get away with manslaughter!

i mean, based on what I just read...since the cyclist supposedly hit the passenger side door of the truck, and the truck was turning from cambridge st onto spice st, that constitutes A FUCKING RIGHT HOOK which is illegal regardless of whatever bullshit he is claiming. How is there "not one scintilla of evidence that there was anything negligent about his operation?!?!?!" I fucking hate when judges don't even know the law. Go home, you're drunk.1) Stop watching the donkey porn.

I feel I've seen this bike. Colnago, I think - Rabobank paint, I used to have one similar.

Same old, same old, "I didn't see them", beyond upsetting. Every occurrence of this programs drivers, if they do hit someone, to just drive away and say they didn't see someone. Just the worse.

I don't think you can actually claim you "didn't hear" the cyclist smashing into your passenger side door hard enough to dent it. that's so asinine, if that argument flies this time I'm going to lose my shit and one-man-picket the courthouse1) Stop watching the donkey porn.
