I've never had a problem with that area. I ride down that stretch of mass ave like 20 times a year during evening rush hour. I don't know if its just b/c I try and jump the light to take a lane or what, but I usually get right through there without issue. That said, getting hooked by a trailer is fucking terrible. When I went through there last night they had all traffic going on huntington redirected to go under (e.g. no left/right @ mass) and mass ave had blinking yellows through that intersection (don't know if this is a new trend, or reaction to accident, i've never seen it before). But the ped cones/tape were still up.I ONLY WEAR CAMPY CONDOMS WITH WHITE WRAPS - joeyfresh

Ped cones were still up this morning, but I don't recall seeing tape. In fact one dude was doing some sort of indecisive dance that made it look like he was about to walk out into the middle of stopped traffic. Since I have to ride through there every day on my way to work, I certainly hope the flashing yellows are not a new thing, because it made getting off of huntington really sketchy last night.I have DTF pants. By Forest Hills, I'm in the left, passing slower traffic and preparing to make a left. This woman revvs up behind me, leaning on her horn and yelling at me about how "bikes have to be on the right, dumbass bitch," When I don't move over (into traffic btw), she proceeds to gun it around me within inches of my handlebars, leaning on her horn.

I followed Michelle's Standard Operating Procedure for Asshole Drivers and flipped her mirror at the next light. She chased me down, around a few turns. I thought she was gone, but out of nowhere, I heard a car revving behind me. I turned over my shoulder and prepared to move over for them, but no sooner could I do that does this bitch speed up next to me, swerve into me, and jam the brakes. She knocked me down with the side of her car.

I sat up, was able to get the first three of their plate before they sped off. A driver behind them saw this and agreed that this was totally intentional. I asked them to catch up and get their plates, but they got stuck at a light. I tried to chase them down, but they were gone. Probably for the best, because I might have wound up in handcuffs had I caught her.

I'm just now calming down. I haven't felt this much anger in a long, long time. My bike is fine, and I got off with a few scrapes. The biggest casualty has been my sanity. I know that its best to just leave people to have their moments and not retaliate (e.g., flipping mirrors), but there are times where I'm just not in the mood to take someone's crap and need to bite back.

I stopped by a cop who was chilling in a parking lot and told him what I have. He said he'd put it out there, but I doubt anything would come from it even if they did stop her, unless she has a warrant out or something but whatever.

Was this on the Hyde Park Ave side of Forest Hills? Cause that's where I live and I always take the left lane to turn left onto my street and have all kinds of issues. That's where and why I had that incident where the psycho dude pulled over and jumped out of his car and tackled me off my bike last year, when I was in the left lane just about to turn onto my street and he came up and got on my wheel and leaned on his horn and was screaming at me and swerved at me and I was like "FUCK OFF" and he attacked me. That whole area SUCKS for riding and I have to ride it daily.

    It was initially on the South St side, but I hooked a quick right and right afterwards onto the Hyde Park side, which is where she hit me. I wasn't actually going anywhere, I was just feeling out a bike I was building and getting fit... I almost disappeared onto the SWC; stupid of me to stick on big wide open roads knowing that she might chase me down;

I was hit by a car somewhere on Washington Street in West Roxbury or Roslindale on Thursday evening on my way home. I am told that my face went through the windshield, leaving me with multiple facial fractures, some severe cuts on my back and a handful of other bruises and cuts. I blacked out on impact, and I have no recollection of anything leading up to or after the accident. I was actually riding at a chill pace though, I had just booked it out to Dedham for a courthouse rush, and was mozying my way back home. I have no idea what happened. I was held at Brigham Womens for a few days, released yesterday evening. Aside from a swolen face, broken tooth and a generally hurting body, I'm fine and I'll recover.

I'm wondering though, where the hell is my bike? I know its probably fucked but I still want it back. Some phone calls to the local police departments came up blank. They wouldn't just.... throw it away.... would they?

    Jesus christ that sucks.
Call the fire departments, too, and maybe also the ambulance company if you can find out which one answered the call. The last time I helped someone recover a bike it was because I saw it at Bikes Not Bombs a couple of years later. The story was that a fireman had taken it home and then finally donated it.

yeah you'd think. When MF crashed a few years ago nobody said/knew anything about the bike (and sean very very kindly went on a late night ride to look for it), but eventually we found it sitting in the hospital entrance with the wheelchairs, maybe give BWH a call/visit.

Boston EMS probably won't know anything about your bike, but they might contact the crew members to see if they remember anything about the bike on scene. You can request a copy of the EMS report too. The JP, Hyde Park or WR districts may have responded. Call those specific stations and request to talk to the OIC. Find out which Fire Station is the one that responded. They might have it hanging at the station.

Sorry to hear that! Unfortunately, police stations saying they don't have it doesn't necessarily mean they don't have it. When I got hit a few years ago the police told me they'd take my bike to the Dudley station. My parents drove up from Jersey to check on me and took me to the Dudley station to get my bike The desk officer went to look for my bike and came back, claiming there were no bikes at all at the station. I was getting upset (the concussion didn't help with that) and so another officer came over to see what the problem was and asked the first if he had looked in the BIKE ROOM for my bike. After they both went and looked for it there, where they keep all of the bikes, they came back with my bike. It might be worth finding out the HQ of whatever jurisdiction you were in and paying them a visit in person when you feel up to it. Best of luck in your recovery.

When I got arrested for running a red light, whoever took my bike didn't put it with the rest of the bikes...the desk guy eventually found it in the detectives' area. Because the guy who nabbed me was some fat detective sergeant. Always worth asking if they'll take a second look.

Sorry to hear about the accident. This might be a DQ but is there a messer emergency fund anymore? Do you have insurance of any kind? A friend once got doored into a large stationary object, breaking a bunch of ribs and doing some internal damage. The person who doored her took off but she was able to get a settlement from, weirdly, her car insurance. Because she had a hit & run clause. Worth it to read the fine print on any insurance policy you might have.

I am (fortunately) still on my parents' insurance until I turn 26 in January, so thats all set. A cousin of mine who is a BPD officer got his hands on the police report (which I still haven't seen), but apparently (according to "multiple witnesses,") I was "riding recklessly" and ran a red, where I met the windshield of a car going though. I was coming down the Washington St hill into Roslindale, so no doubt I had speed, but its not like me to take lights unless I have pretty heavy confidence that I have a clean line through. So, something is off there. It could just be that I got distracted and paid the price, or it could be that the driver was speeding or otherwise doing something unpredictable. Either way, I blame no one but myself. I'm lucky to be home and conscious and alive after head trauma like that.

It mostly kills me that I can't remember the accident. Not even the wreck itself, but even what led to it. I'd expect that "oh fuck" moment to be etched into my head, but its not. I want to know where I fucked up, what I didn't see. But theres just nothing there... I was riding home anticipating the taste of cold beer, next thing I know I'm barely lucid inside a CAT Scan machine. Dafaq?

I've yet to go try to hunt down my bike. My dad seems to think that they will try to fuck me over at the station if I go down there, which I dunno, but he offered to go down tomorrow and try to get it for me so I'll let him have at it. If its just the front wheel and fork that need replacement, I'd be psyched... I'm assuming though that the whole frame will be fucked.

I'm missing a week's worth of work, which blows. I'd probably be alright to get back out there later this week, but I've got follow up apointments and shit I've gotta deal with so I'm not planning on putting my mess shirt back on till next week at least. I've also gotta replace my bag (EMTs cut the strap), my SPD shoes (one of them VANISHED), and whatever is up with my bike (I've still got my track bike to get me around, but damn I love that Olmo, hopefully she can be saved).

Otherwise, I'm alright. Got some pain I'm still wrapping around myself. I can't chew on anything per my facial fractures. I've got pretty nasty headaches and I'm generally tired. But I'm alive, could have been worse with a wreck like this. I'm just going stir crazy being inside all day. This is so weird.

Thanks to everyone who has sent me love and support... If anyone wants to chill in Rozzie, let me know... I'll be here (lonely)!
  13.
^the cops won't do anything to you if you go to a station but it would help to know (even just have some semblance) of what station it could be at. I would suggest going or at least calling around as soon as your able though. That being said, if nothing turns up at the station in the next week, reach out to Bikes Not Bombs. Joe King found a messengers bike there a year after an accident and was successfully reunited.

Don't push yourself either. I have permanent nerve damage in my back because I didn't take my PTs advice and tried to get back into it ASAP. Four years later, I'm still paying for it dearly.'Cause i always say i love you when i mean turn out the lights.

I've taken my track bike around the block on errands, doing like a whole 8 mph. No way I'd want to push myself, and I felt super antsy, but most of what hurts is my face so I could ride. I'm probably gonna hit downtown tomorrow and at least hang out, maybe take a few odd jobs just to stop me from going crazy.

I am healing, still feel like crap, but much better than I was the past few days. I'm mostly just pissed at myself for letting this happen. I guess I was just so close to home that I stopped paying attention, or something (none of these injuries hurt as much as not remembering how I got here).

Thanks again for the love, y'all!
