I got a call/message this morning from a private investigator who was searching for information about the Eric Hunt accident, specifically if I knew of any witnesses or had photos from the scene.

If you know where to find either of these things, please give Richard a call at 617-212-3069.

I haven't had a chance to call him back yet, I'm currently on a bus back from nyc, but I will post an email address here as well once I speak with him.RIDE METAL

I know what you tell me. I know you don't give random people on the phone information, especially those who give but vague details about their own interest in what could only result in a lawsuit against, possibly, the very family of the poor dead cyclist.

Y'know who hires dicks? Insurance companies. Why? So they can dig up any reason not to pay a family for their loss as a result of an action by their customer. I think the point here is, what do you know, really.

Sketchy insurance company hired a dude to find out a bunch of information about my bike and whatnot because the parts to repair it were like $250.I am Humbert outside the internet, actually.

I thought there was a PI hired by his family or something?

just talked to richard on the phone, and while he didnt show me any credentials(obviously), he told me that he was hired by the lawyer representing the Hunt family and is trying to find anyone that may have seen anything at the scene of the accident. personally, i believe him and i think we should all do our best to find some people who saw what happened, the Hunt family deserves that much.RIDE METAL

Doubt it was a PI, probs some insurance dude. We were going to sue, but decided not to hassle with it once we realized they were wealthy as fuck and would hire a better lawyer.

Good to hear the investigator is on Eric's side.I am Humbert outside the internet, actually.

for the record, eric's father was/is a personal injury lawyer. as soon as i read that, i figured that the family would get some kind of independent investigation going on, especially since witnesses and the mbta seemed to be telling very different stories as to what went down.

it sounds like it really, really sucks for the father. apparently eric's mother passed away some time ago. i can't imagine what this must be like for him.

For the record, I am an (unemployed) attorney. When it comes to law suits, Private Dicks are usually hired in three situations. First, is when someone is assigned a public defender. In order to defend against the charges, the court will appoint (upon request) a P.I. to do some "fact finding." Second, is when the plaintiff wants to do some "fact finding." These are NOT appointed by the court, unless there is some very odd circumstances. Third, is when a criminal defendent hires a private attorney (i.e. not court appointed), and the attorney then gets a P.I. involved. In any of the above events, you are not required to speak with the P.I. (unless court ordered), and if you asked them who they are working for they have to disclose that information. Evidence obtained via fraud is not allowed in court.

If the P.I. in Eric's case was hired by his family it is because they are going after a civil law suit (prolly for wrongful death). Otherwise, the P.I. would have been hired by the D.A.'s office, as the State is always the "person" who prosutes criminal cased (i.e. involntary manslaghter, in Eric's case).

Last, insurance companies usually do not hire P.I.s. Insurance companyies are the scum of the earth, and try to save every penny. Hiring a P.I. would cost too much. They usually have in-house investigation crews, because they cost less. All you white kids look alike when you're still covered in baby fat, so I was getting bored with the non-stop WASP parade.

  15.
So, an in-house insurance company's investigation crew wouldn't lie and say they're a dick for someone else?
  16.
Hey guys, y'think I could borrow some money? I kinda need an investigator to help me find my parents. He said it'll probably be about five or six grand.

Who said anything about court? He says p.i.'s are required to disclose their information, and especially so if they want to use any information obtained in court. I'm asking if he thinks an insurance company would lie to obtain information in general.

Sure. They could. However, if they want to do anything official with that information it usually has to be support by supplementary documentaion, affidavits, coorborating information, etc. If any of that fails, because someone is lying, then there will be much larger problems. They also wont have a job for very long. A much better approach is know all of the "facts" and then "spin" them to tell the story you want to tell. Perception and interpretation of fact is much more important than fact itself. Watch NBC and FOX news back to back, and you'll see exactly that. All you white kids look alike when you're still covered in baby fat, so I was getting bored with the non-stop WASP parade.

    jesus

I didn't see anything but in this case I have to say Meph isn't trolling, be careful folks. Also meph actually has some experience in this arena. Keep your mouths shut unless requested by the family and especially if you start hearing questions like "did he have reflectors on his pedals" or "what was the visibility like" etc. If the family has not contacted you then there is a reason someone is calling you outside of their request. If it is a family lawyer they can request the family call you and inform you that a lawyer will be contacting you for information. Sedition seems to know how it should be done, but that isn't how it's always done.

    Terrible news.

and I do think sedition is thinking that a regular family has a large knowledge of the law

if you don't know to object then a lot of BS can fly

It might be fine but I would always err towards caution in these situations.

    exactly.

Monkey's could also fly out of their ass, too. The point was that if they want to use info obtained in some shady way, in court, it just ain't going to fly. Courts have an issue with lies. It is called perjury. It is bad. It will get you in trouble. I am by no means defending insurance companies, but I will state that there is NOT a vast consipiray to lie to obtain evidence. That is just not how things work. Like any politician, an insurance company will *spin* facts to tell the story they want.

And no, I do not assume that a "regular family" has a large knowledge of the law. That is why I posted something saying (a) you don't have to speak with a P.I., and (b) if you ask who they are working for, they should tell you. From that point, you have to make-up your own mind about what you want to do (e.g.speak with them or not). All you white kids look alike when you're still covered in baby fat, so I was getting bored with the non-stop WASP parade.
