weird semi-custom lowrider that I saw in Buenos Aires a couple of months ago. There's, like, a scene for these guys down there. Known colloquially as bicis al piso or bicicleta planchada, I think.

Velonews:The cat’s out of the bag and the name of the new Schleck team looks to be “Leopard-Trek.”

Yes, team lux will be called "Leopard-Trek." As far as I can tell, Leopard isn't a company that is sponsoring the team, so I can only imagine the schlecks sitting down over coffee/juice/whatever and being like "leopards are nice. leopards are cool. lets use that."

The only real tragedy here is that Im not sure anyone on the team can pull off leopard spots.ascott430 - "Was going to build it up into a fixed gear until I realized I'd rather spend money and time on mountain bikes."

That reminds me of the k2 proflex bikes. Those were the creakiest things this side of... I dunno, something separating here and somewhere really creaky.

Those k2's are a bitch to work on too. Cable routing is absolutely terrible, and the front dérailleur is impossible to adjust.

    cipo pulled off zebra stripes.
if the team was sponsored by leopard bikes and not trek, then a 'team leopard lux' would be cooler.

Pulled off is a strong term for the muscle skinsuiti mean that looks like a 10 cat bag, easy

Unless you mean that they removed them at the end of races, in which case it is nonetheless accurate. I hope.i mean that looks like a 10 cat bag, easy

I have now, and always will have a soft spot for Trek. At least up to about 2000. I think it's just because my first for-realz bike was a Trek. But I love their old frames. There's just a no frills utilitarian feel to their old frames. No fancy lug-work or any of that jazz, just good functional bikes.
Whats not to love about this?

    whats not to love:

    poorly set-up cockpit

outside of cables going haywire off those brake levers, whats not set up well in the cockpit?

Personally I agree and would change out the levers for aero's, throw some barcons on there and call it good. If I was going to need the other eyelet up front i'd swap the fork that had braze-ons for the lowrider panniers anyway. I believe newer 520 models had a full touring fork on stock.

as far as the frame goes, i'd ride the shit out of it.There's always money in The Banana Stand
  8.
Stem is too short for a bike not meant to be ridden with a front load, bars need to be roatated so the ends of the drops are facing the rear drop-outs, or the stem and ramp on the bars are flat, and brake levers need to be moved down.

the hoods on those brake levers suck to ride on and those bars were designed to ride in the drops and bend. Not good for touring.
rest a handlebar bag on, which low riders do not. At that stage of the game, most cyclotourists would have had a handlebar bag. The handlebar bags that are tubular or don't require a support rack suck
the double eyelets let you run a front rack that you can

PS I love old treksTake-off everything but your rainboots
