Cambridge DPW Bike Official Charged w/ Bike Theft

    Cambridge —

A Cambridge DPW worker entrusted with dealing with abandoned bikes was allegedly caught stealing bicycles last Wednesday. Vincent C. Best, 43, of 171 Columbia St. was charged with larceny over $250, A resident reported being robbed at knifepoint by an unknown man last month but recently reported it, according to a Cambridge Police report.

Best is listed as a compliance officer in the abandoned bicycles section of the Cambridge Public Works department online. City officials have not responded to questions on the issue yet.

On Jan. 11 at 12:58 p.m., officers patrolling in a cruiser got a report of a bicycle theft on Sidney Street in progress. The suspect was described as a tall black man in his 30s, with short hair, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and driving a white Ford F150 Limited.

Minutes later police reportedly stopped the vehicle on Douglas Street. The driver and owner was identified as Best and two mountain bikes were reportedly found in the bed of the pickup truck. Various tools were also found in the truck’s cab, including a small set of wire cutters, the report stated.

Witnesses on Sidney Street told police that the suspect stopped his pickup truck next to a blue mountain bicycle and cut the lock with a small tool before putting it in the bed of his pickup truck. The witnesses also saw him pick up another unlocked black mountain bike nearby and put it in the bed of the truck. Police did not find any evidence of a cut lock present.

When questioned, Best reportedly said he was on his lunch break and that the bicycles found in his truck were his and that they were in the truck when he arrived for work on Jan. 11. Both bicycles were confiscated as evidence.

Parts of the report was redacted by Cambridge Police.

Vincent C. Best is scum. Vincent C Best. Vinny C. Best. Vinny Best. Vincent Best. Cambridge Boston DPW.

Just trying to cover all possible Google results for his name for the unlikely event that he loses his job and has to find another.

Unless those bikes were specifically registered with the city of Cambridge, the rightful owners wont even be able to get them back from the City."Dude's just smashing fructosenormativity, lay off."

Why would you steal a bike at knifepoint if your job is to cut locks on bikes?i mean that looks like a 10 cat bag, easy

Please note he has only been charged and that these are just allegations. Marianna makes a very good point. Lets not break out the pitchforks just yet.A few spokes shy of a wheel.

the knife point sentence doesn't fit with the rest of the article. I'm wondering if the was some sort of type-o (cut/paste-o?)..
