It rules, let's talk about it. I'd be down to do this every few weeks.

Evening of Nov 16, morning of Nov 17
Gonna take a Saturday evening train to Worcester, night ride to Wachusett Mountain State Park to camp, climb Wachusett and ride back to Boston the next morning.

    Schedule:
Meet at South Station at 5:30p Saturday
Take the 6:00p train to Worcester
    Get to Worcester at 7:30
Drink beer and sodas and eat pizza in town
Ride to Wachusett Mountain State Reservation - 18 miles
Stealth camp somewhere in the woods

    Wake up, climb Wachusett
    Have a snowball fight
    Eat doughnuts
Ride back to be in Boston by mid afternoon - 50ish miles
Drink more (root) beer at The Kells

TSB pace, as fast as the slowest - keep it fun.

    You will need:
Something for gear - a rack and panniers, rando bag, comfy backpack, etc.
A warm sleeping bag and pad
Riding clothes to wear and a warm pullover
    A bright light
A tube and a tire lever
    A few bucks
    Not much else

I and others have plenty of extra gear if someone requires it.

    Edited for more info

I'll be so down for this type of thing on any weekend I'm not CXing.

And I also have stuff if folks want to borrow it this weekend or any future weekend. You said time was infinite, so why the watch wrapped around your wrist?

Interested in this idea, except I don't own a tent or a warm sleeping bag. Could probably (hopefully) borrow one or both. Can't do this weekend though.I have DTF pants. They're crotchless. -surprisefries

If you've got a good bag there's not much need for a tent unless it's gonna be well below 40, raining, or there are bugs.

I'm very down but I have another engagement this saturday :[
next time for sure! a few of my other friends and I were discussing this as well, so let's make it happen.
an alcohol stove is something to think about..waking up with something warm is infinitely better than riding to dunks after you're hungry and thirsty.

I am absolutely down for this as long as my neighbor can dog-sit.

And I will definitely be bringing an ultralight tent that sleeps two comfortably, three with spooning.

I also have a tiny camp stove for breakfast beverages or hot toddy.::lols at Dan's great photoshopping job:: ::slowly stops laughing:: ::googles:: ::kills self:: -tinyhonkshus

Looks like Sourman is probably in, too -- just spoke to him by phone.

Is there a particular time you're heading out from the Kells? Might make sense for me at least to meet you there and then we ride to South Station.::lols at Dan's great photoshopping job:: ::slowly stops laughing:: ::googles:: ::kills self:: -tinyhonkshus

Ride was excellent. Brokedown drunken party trains, burrito pizza with college students, beahs on the rail bridge, getting lost in cute towns, not-so-stealth camping, pictures with German shepherds, $1.40 weiners, and lots of farms, horses, and cows.
    Would ride again.

How fast/many miles are ya'll planning to ride? I ask because I hurt my knees a while back and haven't really been able to train. Now that I'm better, I'm finding I'm out a bit out of shape. I'm interested but I don't wanna hold you back...unstuck in time

it should be about 20 miles on saturday night and 50-60 on sunday. the wachusett climb is like 1.5 miles each way but may be blocked by a snowbank.

i'd like to do at least a 15mph moving average, but last time we had a few folks who preferred a slower pace and we split into two groups. i haven't mapped a nice bike route yet but will try to make a good cue sheet for the return home and anyone can follow it regardless of pace.

So I'm moving out of New England at the end of August. This makes me very sad, but my partner got into her graduate program in New York so we're out for a couple of years. She just got a bike (after not riding for a few years) and I really want to plan an overnight ride/camp at the end of the summer with her and my brother as a farewell to NE. What are some nice rides that put us in campable areas/camp grounds that are (preferably) 50 miles or under each way. What are some resources to finding rides like this?and then the time will come when you add up the numbers
