Heres to making cycling fall into the same category as synchronized swimming and figure skating.

    aarn:Innovate or Die
Innovate or Die - Aquaduct: Mobile Filtration Vehicle

Im all for solutions, don't get me wrong and I love the application of the Peristaltic pump in this concept, but what is the price tag for the thing going to be? 800$ to 1200$ USD? Whats the cost of the filter and how frequently does it need replaced? Where do you order it? Online???? Can the people this is targeted to actually afford something like this? And keep in mind the expense doesn't stop at monetary investment, this is also an investment of time considering the mode of transportation usually used is a gas powered vehicle. I have a funny feeling that the losses that are required for someone to adopt this into their personal water retrieval system far outweigh the benefits. Its not like these people have disposable income to throw around.

Again, I am all for solutions to problems. But they have to be practical solutions.

I agree with you on that machine. It's a quaint Idea, but it looks like it didn't even transport enough water for a family. It also looks like it was designed to ride on paved bike paths rather than whatever road conditions it would actually see. New maintenance costs would occur where there were none before. It lacks any kind of rear rack or cargo carrying device so that limits the trike to a single use vehicle. Seems like they would be better off keeping it simpler. There's always money in The Banana Stand

actually the video said the usual transportation is ladies walking 3+ miles. a 3 mile ride might take 15 minutes? a 3 mile walk could take 45 minutes. so you could potentially have 3 tanks riding back and forth in the same amount of time. the video also said the tank does hold enough for a family which it previously said was 20 gallons. the tank doesn't look nearly 20 gallons to me, but even if it took a few trips, it would be much faster and seemingly less laborious than walking. also, you can filter the water in a stationary mode, so if you had two tanks to filter into, you could do that by the water source and put the other tank in a backpack of some sort. also the video clearly demonstrated riding on dirt paths and grasses, so I don't think it was meant for bike paths.

as far as affording the bikes, the cost could go down as they were more widely used. any sort of fundraising initiative by rich people, nonprofits, or gov't agencies could provide single bikes for a village of families or smaller groups who could take turns using it. the success of those ventures would dictate further funding. the company manufacturing it would be in charge of sales and teaching maintenance just like any other company.

to me, it seems more viable than you're giving it credit for.

^^ also what many people fail to understand is that women in these countries spend ALLLL DAYYY finding water and fuel for the home fire. this means they can't go to school, can't get an education, can't raise their social status.

Saving a woman 4 hours a week (plus things like solar powered LED's for night studying) doesn't just give her free time it can change an entire culture.

Also check out the Hippo roller, and the TED talk about the redesign of the hippo roller

Also check this crazy ass shit out, seems they have like 14+ episodes of this show!

    what?this wont hurt a bit...
