    New Saddle Day?....
Picked up this saddle for pretty cheap for the Guerciotti. It's a bit more beat up/discolored than I had expected. Thoughts on how to clean it/make it less off white?

this may be a weird suggestion, take it with a grain of salt

bleach may work? i sometimes use the bleach pens on my white grips (best choice of color, i know...) and it surprisingly does a decent job.

i feel like if you got some of that bleach stuff from a pen or just the tubs of it and wiped the seat with a rag or wad of paper towels of it you may be able to buff it up a bit as far as color goes.

im not sure this will take dirt off so much as it will bring some white back to its overall color. but hey. it may be worth a shot?

if anyone else has experience or knowledge about that kind of thing id be interested to hear your input as well.

adam:whoa, looks great eric. when is that monster being built up?

Fork, Headset, Bottom Bracket, Stem, Bars are on the frame. I need to find someone who will polish 2 seatposts for me (campy fluted and campy aero - still deciding which looks best with it). Old school fluted campy cranks and chainring are sitting in my parts box until I have some wheels to throw on that bad boy, but that may not happen until summer time :-(

Dan Roch:if its leather you could try that "leather paint" they sell at shoe stores... that may work

I read shoe polish is ok to use as well, so picked up some white shoe polish. I used it on the bottom tip of the saddle, and will see if it causes any problems. If not then I'll try it on the top.

Thanks for the idea - surprised I hadn't thought of it, as I've used them on the toes of my chucks before. I am curious if it will react differently to leather than rubber though.clockwork ted: this is my favorite thread. sweet BJ alexi!

shit man, i hear ya on that one. i've been scouting around and can definitely do an all-italian build, but cogs and a chain (especially a chain) are fucking hard to come by. also i don't think i'll be using italian pedals.

oh, older campy pedals are gorgeous, but i only use clipless; my clipless road shoes are set up for shimano (which i have on 2 other bikes), and my clipless mtb shoes are set up for time atac (which i have on 2 other bikes)

^ Try Mr. Clean eraser sponges. You can get 'em at Stop N Shop. Just don't over saturate and wipe off every pass with a dry rag. They seriously take off some pretty outrageous, stuck on gunk from any white surface. But spot test it first somewhere out of sight I guess.Jockin' Mike D. to my dismay!

Saddle looks good. I really do like Brooks saddles, but have yet to be inclined to put one on my daily ride or anything. I love the tool bags for em too. Estratton, get some orange citrus degreaser, put it on a rag, and wipe your saddle down, it'll get most of the gunk out. That's how I learned to clean white saddles and bar tape at the bike store.that's when I reach for my revovler...

i already fixed the saddle. The bars is a whole 'nother story. I don't ride my other bike with padding on the bars, but i have have track bars on it, much more comfortable.bake em' away, toys
  23.
if you don't want padding, use cloth tape. actually, someone on bike forums just posted a pretty good set up:

sp00ki:one layer of cotton tape (no overlap) followed by another layer of cotton tape harlequin/diamond wrap (single color 'cause two colors looks tacky) followed by 5-7 layers of shellac.
the shellac keeps it waterproof and durable (emphasis on durable); the inner layer keeps things soft and absorbs buzz, the harlequin wrap keeps the shellac from hardening the inner layer and looks gorgeous when done with a single color.
you end up with a waterproof wrap that's bulletproof and classy without being mushy like gel or get grimy and gross like cork. takes a full day to wrap, but lasts forever even after spills.

i use the cheap stuff for the inner layer, toshi for the outer layer.
You're purposefully attempting to sabotage my degree project. Thanks.

If so, the one I'm going to be building up for Julie sometime soon is the same color. I think they could even be the same size? 50? More or less similar setup to yours, but singlespeed.

certainly not a 50! haven't you seen how my toptube & downtube meet at my headtube? and i thought andrea and i were the only ones with blue GBs wandering around. [although to be fair mine is still in plastic] andrea's is now up, running, and quite fancy. i am suprised to find that we have company.

CRAP this is actually lauren [ratattack]. i meant to quote estratton, not edit his damn post. who the hell made me a mod anyway? and now i don't know how to recover eric's comment. sorry.clockwork ted: this is my favorite thread. sweet BJ alexi!
