withnail:tell me you used "brifters" (ugh I hate that word) for the rear and friction for the front.

nope, friction for both at the moment. i will be getting some indexed 10 speed dura ace down tube shifters (they actually make them!) when i have money again. i am trying to get it to be all d/a 10, but remain as "old" as possible. the headset, stem, and seatpost are all 7200 dura ace ex from the early 80's. it's no where near "done" i am just trying to get it out on the road.

So.... I took some pictures of the bike goodies I mailed up here from FL.

The replacement fork for my cervelo. The original has a little ding in the drop out, but is totally usable and safe according to my buddy who is a mechanic @ a shop back home. Just makes putting the front wheel in and out a pain in the ass. When I got the bike I called the guy who shipped it to me and he had UPS replace the fork. 1" Steerer, uncut. Tis perdy.

Misc easton road bars. These came with my cervelo and drove me nuts. Quickly replaced them.

Nitto 66 Crystal Fellow Seatpost - 27.2 - picked up dirt cheap on ebay... along with...

Nitto ADB-X bars and Crystal Fellow blue? stem. I actually can't ever remember the name of the stem

Also in my box o' goodies was a Aero Drink bottle (gift from my friend who said I didn't carry enough water with me) and another old campy record headset (free from one of my shops back home. had bought one which was missing a part. So I guess more like a 2 for 1 - good condition)clockwork ted: this is my favorite thread. sweet BJ alexi!

Cervelo does indeed have a 1" steerer.
These forks pop up pretty regularly on ebay. I've seen one go for as low as $40.

*edit - 2 on ebay right now. one @ $99 and another @ $40 - both 1-1/8"clockwork ted: this is my favorite thread. sweet BJ alexi!

white saddles becoming off colored means you ride the damn thing. if they don't become off colored they still look sexy even if you ride the damn thing, though i like dirty bikes... and women.

i'll admit it, i think triples are ugly, but i've also been on the verge of 'mashing' on 39x23 on certain sections of hills.

Yup. Really, i've been thinking that a something like a 36-48 double paired with a 12-25/6 rear cluster. Easy front shifting, plus a more useful gear range.

Touring is another beast entirely. You need that 22t granny gear front ring, and you need it bad, if you have to deal with real hills.Troglodytarum is latin for troll

NEW BIKE DAY for me was friday!

I know I'm gonna catch some flack for this but, oh well fuck em..

I broke down and got a schwinn madison from Phil in Framingham. It was to good a deal for me to care about his shotty workmanship.

I didn't want the stock shitty wheel set, so I told him I wanted a set of Formula to Mavic Open Sports and he only charged me an additional $30 for the upgrade! In the end I walked out with the complete bike w/ the upgraded wheel set, a set of tektro cross levers, a dura ace lockring and a pair of Shimano SPDs for $406

In addition to the wheel set I also immediately changed out the stock stem. Unfortunately I managed to over tighten the stem bolt and strip the star nut, D'oh!!! $3.99 and same hammering and all is well now though..

one brake, two levers = awesome

*excuse the shitty cell phone pics please, my camera is at nick cool's house..

I was planning on heading to phil's in a few weeks, currently debating weather to get a madison from phil or just a set of open sports from him to replace my wheels on my conversion. My issue is I'm impatient and I can get the wheels now and be riding fixed again or i can wait and save up and get the madison later and be stuck on my single speed with one brake. That 30$ upgrade was a sweet deal as was everything else. Bike was $350 right? Man seeing yours and thoes upgrades makes me tempted to wait for some $$$.Hey, aren't you a dinosaur?

yeah, the madison stock was $350.. the stock wheelset has formula hubs to some shitty rims, part of the reason i didn't want them was that I wanted a black wheel set..

I hung my head in shame and took a cab... it ended up only being like 15 with tip tho, so that's not that bad. Actually it's what the night woulda cost had I been drinking $3-4 beers instead of $1 beers..

The only real problem with the whip that I see is that it's heavy (and the cranks gotta go someday), but having taken the fork off to install the star nut I realized 3/4 of the weight is the fork, that thing must weigh 5 pounds or more!! I'm toying with the idea of taking it off, but I dunno how a carbon would look. I was think about mrotown's stella:
